Just recently Redbox announced that their kiosks were installed in the final Albertson’s locations yet to have them, putting them now in all 248 locations across the country.

Redbox also recently announced they have over 15,000 kiosks operational, with that number nearing 16,000 according to my sources. And, they look to have over 20,000 locations by the end of the year.

So, that puts Redbox kiosks in superstores (Walmart), grocery stores, convenience stores, and even a few airports and college campuses. Personally I would like to see them in every airport, that would be great for travelers. And every college campus would love to have one I think – or at least the students would.

Where do they go next? Post offices? Restaurants? Share your thoughts in the comments…

Just saw a survey that Redbox is sending out to some users (let us know if you got it) about how likely we are to recommend the service to a friend. After submitting the answer to that question, I got the following screen:

Redbox Survey - June 11, 2009

The question I found most interesting was about speeding up return times. I wonder how they would do that?

Anyway, what answer would you choose and why? Leave a comment and let us know.

According to a story over at Home Media Magazine, an analyst familiar with the situation believes Universal will have to settle the lawsuit Redbox has brought against them…

Richard Ingrassia wrote, “We believe application of the First Sale Doctrine (17 U.S.C. Sec. 109) will prompt Universal Home Entertainment to settle its content dispute with Redbox, clearing the way for more rapid expansion.”

If this happens, this will be good news for Redbox and consumers, as it will be easier and faster to get the latest Universal releases.

Recently Redbox hired a new executive with the title of VP of Video Games. His name is Mark Achler, and he shared a bit about the Redbox plans for integrating video games into their business.

There will be two types of kioks: One that is a lot like the current kiosks, with video games being rented along side DVDs. The other will be a standalone kiosk just for video games. Games said to be included will be for the Wii, Playstation 3, and XBox 360.

Pricing for the games is still not being released yet, but we can hope that Redbox continues it very competitive model when entering this new arena.

Of course, Redbox is not the first to enter the video game kiosk market, and they will have a bit of a fight with e-Play, the kiosk operator recently spotted in Walmart stores in the northeast and Canada. And, Blockbuster is said to be adding video games to its upcoming Express machines being released this year.

Many members here have mentioned their desire for video games in the kiosks, and now Redbox is responding. What do you think? Is this something you will use and recommend to friends? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
