Inside Redbox is the #1 "Unofficial" Redbox Online Community for Redbox Codes, News and more. Inside Redbox is not affiliated with Redbox Automated Retail, LLC.

As you may be aware, last month Redbox changed the way they are distributing their monthly first monday promo codes. Now they are only sent via text message to those signed up for their SMS network, and the codes are all unique so they cannot be shared.

If that wasn’t bad enough, things got worse today…

It looks like some glitch in the Redbox system has prevented codes from being sent to most subscribers, and those who are receiving text messages, are getting no codes at all, but just a nice blank message.

Let us know if you got your code, or if you are a victim of this error.

Personally, I don’t see the purpose of making one-time use codes that are only good for a single day, but I am sure Redbox is testing and if this doesn’t work out (like today), perhaps they will return to a more simple system.

BTW, if you do get a one-time use code that you do not plan to use, feel free to post it here!

I received my code at 5:50pm. But was cooking dinner. It was to late for me to even think about going to get any movies during that time of night. I still had to get kids there bath and off to bed by 8pm.

I received my coade 5:50pm but was home by then. We live about 10 miles from the nearest box so saving a buck for a free movie was not worth the gas driving to get it.

Similar situation. I got mine about 5:05, and my wife was near a place she could stop to pick one up. She got her code about 45 minutes later, when she was almost home. My dad got one between those two times, but my mom didn’t get her code until after 8 pm

I have a cell phone but do not do the whole texting thing … besides my phone is a prepaid deal and it costs me $1 per day I use it so getting a code would cost as much as going and renting one. Needless to say I do not like the text code deal ….

I can’t afford to receive text messages on my cell phone. That is why I would use the codes on the internet to get a free movie. If I can afford text messages, I wouldn’t be looking for a free movie.

Same here. I have a cellphone with very little minutes and no texting. I think it isn’t fair to be black balled because I don’t have texting

We rec’d a code on 1/4 and used it. Husband swiped a credit card even though it said 0 balance (like you normally have to do). The thing is we we charged anyway, and get this…we were not charged on his swiped credit card, but on my debit card that I have previously used.

      • Visitor [Join Now]
        jMac [visitor]

That’s because Redbox will still run your card and authorize $1 to make sure it will hold a charge. This is a common practice among vendors–Blockbuster Express tries to authorize $1.01. Anyway, the amount is just there in a “hold” status, and that amount is not available for you to use. When you return the movie, hopefully the next day so that you won’t be charged at all, the hold will be released in a few days and that amount will be available to you again.

Received an sms txt at 5:48pm central yesterday evening, with a code and that it had to be used by 11:59pm. i saw this on my way home from work, stopped at a nearby kiosk and attempted to use it, but it didn’t work. called customer service, received a pre-recorded message that there was an issue with the monday codes, and that a new one would be sent when the issue was resolved. nothing new has been sent to me yet.

I got my code, but at 5:50pm on Monday night. Really too late to get out and get a movie then. Also this SMS messgage thing is not a good idea for me either. I have a prepaid phone and it cost me a minute to read the message.

    Don’t you get it guys!!!!

Red box is just trying to find out if those people who did not get “THE CODE” rented a movie anyways….

They are just making their job, it’s just a MARKETING STRATEGY PLAN!!!!

LET THEM DO THEIR JOB, AND ENJOY THE RIDE (get the free movies while you can, it wont last 4 ever)

Sometimes I get the text, sometimes I dont. Even when I do get the test message is at night when I’m home for the evening and it say’s, good for today only. How dumb is that. We should have known this Redbox thing was too good to be true. Even if you look up the codes yourself the actual Redbox machine does not allow them. It say’s already used, or expired, when we never used it even once. Too many problems so we are moving on to Blockbuster. Too bad!

My code worked, but the machine kiosk didn’t because when it was spitting out my DVD i went to grab it and the kiosk sucked the movie back in. and came with an error code saying dvd couldn’t be vended properly. omg then so of course, it used my code anyway. i suggest putting red boxes inside 24 hour sites or in a warm booth like aphone booth. Hey, they new phone booth. lol the cold and rain screws up the workability of the machines. thanks

I rec’d a code at 5:50 pm… too late for me to even consider trucking out to the closest Redbox… dinner/homework/bedtime. Last year they took our Redbox out of the very close McDonalds. Now it’s 3-4 miles away and a real hassel to get to. I used to rent several times a week. I rarely rent at all now. PLEASE bring back our redbox in Maryland Heights, MO!

Got my code late in the day so it wasnt convenient to go get the free movie. Great idea and way to keep their movies for someone who wants to pay for them! Tricky little devils. Maybe next month.

My son and I each got codes on our phones… he got his about 2 hours earlier than I did. The emails didn’t have the codes in them, just a blank space… and then they sent us each another email with the codes actually in them… his came around 4:00 p.m. and mine came at 9:30 p.m.! Crazy…. ordinarily it would have been no use to me, but as luck would have it I was in Walmart at the time and rented a movie. Of course I didn’t have time to watch it once I got home, but at least it didn’t cost me anything. ;)

I have signed up to receive the promo codes on my cell three times. I still have never gotten a code sent to my cell. I also signed up for them to be sent to my email. I didn’t get them either. However I do get emails comfirming my rentals and reserved dvds. So I know they have the email address correct in their sysytem. So it must be me…?? Am I doing something wrong or forgetting to do something? I’m stumped, I can”t figure it out. When I called Redbox the girl just told me to signup again and it should work for me. She was wrong it did not work AGAIN!!!!! Any suggestions?

It could be your cell phone provider and/or whether or not your phone can get SMS messages. I have MetroPCS and while my roommate’s phone will get SMS, mine does not, so I have never been able to partake in this free code deal via the cell phone. I have to rely on website like this, at least in the past when the codes worked for everyone…

I have a similar situation. I have signed up several times and have yet to receive a code text. I know for a fact that i can send and receive sms. I get the emails but don’t get the texts. Hmm I don’t know. Maybe I will try again to sign up for it.

No code and I just suscribed to the text about a week ago. My friend use to get a text every Monday but now he says it has stopped completely. I say don’t advertise something if you can’t offer it.

I sorry, but, I see it like this… Free codes, who cares… any movie for a buck is a deal… just get it back on time and dont worry about free or “almost free”… Redbox only makes a profit on the second, third, seventeenth …. nights… If you are lazy… redbox will take advantage of it… Americans are mostly lazy… Get off you bum and get your movies back on time…

Redbx I think youdid a wrong thing about not givingout free codes once a month first people take out more movies and second I dont have text on my phone why dont u go bk to the old way. also you need to change your boxes people who are returning movies should not have to wait until someone gets their movie there should be a seperate slot for return movies this would help us handicap people especially ones who cannot stand for a long time to return a movie. please help us sincerely carol witherow

I seem to recall reading somewhere that they are experimenting with the process of being able to return a disc while someone else is browsing the catalog at the kiosk. Hopefully they will get that in place soon!

I got the tuesday code late afternoon after i had rented a movie for the kids and that was a pain but whats 1.08 compared to a full rental fee at a local movie rental store. I just wish the codes could be sent out in advance to tuesdays. **Another thing i had to drive to 3 different red box locations last night just to return a $ movie i spent more gas looking for a red box that would take to movie in.

  35. Visitor [Join Now]

Yes, pretty much done with RedBox. Codes arrive late via new system – or they don’t work. 1/3 of the time the actual rental boxes do not work, causing online holds to be jacked up – and then if and when you get your movie, the play quality is always questionable. Netflix here I come. RedBox was a fantanstic idea, but the service over the past 6 months has dropped considerably.

i agree with these late code recievers.got mine at 6.09 pm. already home.went to hastings video, thier early return fees are good, making thier rentals only 1 to 2 dollars, better selection.some movies only .50 cents.redbox is charging 1 dollar a day anyway,so it really works out the same, alot of times even better.get tired of seeing the same old movies on redbox, poor rotation.rented 5 movies, that monday,at 11:00 am.live in nebraska, alot of snow,so we like to be done early.thankyou redbox, for being ineffiecient and guiding me back to other video stores.use to go out of my way for redbox rentals, but by also being cheap with thier codes,i dont shop at those stores as much saving me money also prairie videos are only a buck.which are green boxes.here is mondays code that i laughed at when i got it.ha ha ha ha ha .522n3zt.people need to rent elsewhere for better deals and maybe redbox wont be so cheap.free in NEBRASKA.HA HA HA HA HA.EVEN TOLD THE MANAGER AT HYVEE,HE WAS NOT TO HAPPY.SPREAD THE WORD PEOPLE SO REDBOX WONT HAVE A MONOPOLY………………………………
