"Honey, pick up some champagne and a Redbox while you're out,"

Millions of Americans rang in the new year with a movie rental, according to statistics released by Redbox. The kiosk company says that on December 31, it set a one-day rental transaction record of more than two million DVDs, easily beating the previous record by about 170,000.

What movies were people watching on New Year’s Eve? District 9, G-Force, Paranormal Activity and Julie & Julia were among the top titles rented for the evening. Gary Cohen, Redbox’s senior VP of marketing and customer experience said the following about the rental record:

“With many Americans celebrating New Year’s Eve at home and many more resolving to save money in 2010, Redbox proved a great way to do both,”

Did you celebrate the arrival of 2010 with a Redbox movie, Insiders? If so, which one did you choose?

The busiest day of the year for any video rental store and they manage a whole 100 movies per machine on average?

Rather than good news, that would indicate that they have a problem in my opinion.

It was so easy to rent the titles – 3 discs over the last week – and so hard to return them! The only area machine is an outdoor installation and it has become unreliable due to the combination of frigid temperatures and poorly designed transport mechanism – said problem exacerbated by what must have been a reduced schedule for whatever jobber maintains it…3 rentals and 3 extra nites of rental due to machine fails (suggests a way redbox can find a price point more appealing to the bigs).

Sure did! Stayed home with the kids and watched “Imagine That” on New Year’s Eve. They wanted G-Force, but it wasn’t available. We enjoyed our evening though, and brought in 2010 all together, on the couch. Perfect evening!

The Hangover for the wife & me, Julie & Julia for the teenage daughter and Pink Panther 2 for the pre-teen son. I always try to reserve online whenever possible. It eliminates the ablility to use codes, but I prefer to know the movies will be there when I am going out in the frigid night. I have 3 boxes about a mile or less from my house and several more within 3 miles. I did have trouble returning to the Thornton’s box I rented from, and had to go to the McDonalds a few doors down. Returned those 3 and rented It Might Get Loud & Harry Potter 6. When I returned them, the McDonald’s was full so I had to go back to the Thornton’s. Luckily they are on the same block.

My family rented District 9 for new years eve, it was a pretty good movie. It was also our first red box rental. I can’t believe I have been resisting using the box it’s quick easy and cheap. But best of all it’s a stones throw from my house. Will be renting from RB often from now on, goodbye Blockbuster!!

Went to return a movie on Monday to Eldorado Blvd, Houston, TX. The Redbox took the movie but it just dropped in to the box, It is still showing that I haven’t received the movie and they keep charging my credit card. I have tried calling numerous times and all I get is circuits are busy. I have emailed 5 times and still no response. To top it off, when we put in the code for our free rental it told us “error”. What is going on with Redbox! I guess I will have to cancel my credit card because I sure as heck dont’ want to be charged $21 for a movie I didn’t even watch and then didn’t even keep it.
