    -50 Dead Men Walking

Might be worthy of a promo code. Good reviews from critics:

This is the kind of title redbox *should* be carrying.

This is also the kind of title redbox *should* be carrying.

(In an attempt to reduce the number of future complaints…) Those who aren’t in the mood for sub-titles might want to skip this this highly-rated French film.

Yeah. Lorna’s Silence is supposed to be fantastic. But we have an awful lot of the Transformers-y crowd here, so….

Fortunately “Mall Cop” is still available from redbox.

“Inglourious Basterds” was a “sub-titled” film and most insiders could actually watch, read the sub-titles and not move their lips. Imagine that!

“Inglourious Basterds” was a “sub-titled” film; and *most* insiders were able to: watch; read the sub-titles and not move their lips. Imagine that!

Just look and the “Recent Movies Reviews” page.

Very true! Actually, I wasn’t being critical of people over their sub-title preferences, which is why I said “not in the mood.” Sometimes I’m not in the mood for them myself. It seemed to me many of the complaints were due to not knowing about Inglourious beforehand so I thought people might appreciate having a little more info on this movie.

Agree with Turnip: most often you have to be “in the mood” to watch a movie with subtitles. By ” in the mood” I mean you have to be willing to devote your time and full attention to sitting to watch a movie with subtitles in order to fully experience the movie. I’m willing to do this only if the reviews of a subtitled movie are so good that it is worth my time and attention to sit uninterrupted in front of the tv the full length of the subtitled movie. Therefore, thanks to those who give us the information that a movie is subtitled BEFORE we rent it so we can decide before renting if we are “in the mood” (have the time and attention needed) to fully experience a worthwhile , but subtitled movie. Inglorious Basterds was definitely worth one’s time and attention, but it would have been helpful to know before renting that it was around 50% subtitles. (Actually, Life Is Beautiful is probably my favorite all time movie and that was all subtitles–but well worth it)

“The Ministers” looks like it was never intended for US theatrical release. I would not even waste promo code renting this title.

I wish The Final Destination 3D was in Redbox because even though those movies are stupid I was planning on renting it in Redbox. There’s no way i’m renting it for $5 at the video store. Maybe if my library gets it…

Im getting absolutely sick of not being able to rent the movies i want from redbox… I WILL NOT pay $5 at blockbuster. I WILL NOT wait weeks for netflix to get it to me in the mail. And apparently redbox is getting pushed around week after week by the big 3 and CANT stock the movies that most of us wanna see on new release tuesdays. Well good thing most of us have high speed with programs like UTorrent. What’s even better than 1 dollar?? FREEEE!! C’mon Redbox, get your &#^# together!! and screw the big 3 for giving them a hard time about it!!!

It’s good to see them getting stuff like “Lorna’s Silence”. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if I can bring myself to rent it after watching it once. It’s a great movie with great performances and a moving storyline, but it’s also almost overwhelmingly sad and, for lack of a better word, bleak – which is appropriate considering the storyline of the film, but still… I’m glad I watched it once, but I don’t think I could watch it again.

For the second month in a row, I have been “cheated” out of my free Monday promo code.

Last month, I went to use it probably an hour after receiving the text. The machine said the promo code was already used!!!!

I emailed Redbox but they did not bother to reply.

Yesterday, I rec’d the text message WITHOUT A PROMO CODE in the message!

    Redbox is sliding DOWNhill fast!

Wonder why they’re just now getting it. It’s been out on DVD since last July.

Could it be that redbox is running out of new inventory options because of Universal, Warner, & Fox ?

By the way, I’ll give it a C+.

does anyone know if The Final Destination dvd be the 3D version or the 2D version? because i checked at my local grocery store where they had one copy
in, and it did not say whether it was in 3D.

“Journey to the Center of the Earth” was a double-sided disc with the 2D version on one side & 3D on the other. The best description I could find for this DVD was on Best Buy’s website and it described it as being the same set up.

And, no, the Redbox rental will not include 3D glasses.

    • Visitor [Join Now]
      Joe Schmuck [visitor]

      It’s a 2 sided disc.
      Standard 2-D on side A.
      3-D version on side B.

I hope you havve your own 3-D glasses, cause they’re not going to be included.

I think the Redboxed artwork for The Final Destination is pretty good. I love the “Rest in Pieces” slogan.

CODE ALERT!!! Code snsv25 is working great! Got the new release “Trucker” because I was reading Roger Ebert’s Top 10 picks for 2009 and he had the indie “Trucker” on his list. Hope the movie is good. Also, January doesn’t look like a bad movie month. On the Redbox kiosk:

    January 12th: The Hurt Locker
    Halloween 11
Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself

    January 19th: Gamer
    Pandorum

    January 26th: Surrogates
    Saw V1
    Michael Jackson’t This Is It

    Also in January: Fame
    Whiteout
    The Invention of Lying

    * I was hoping for the movie “Moon” but didn’t see it on the kiosk list

Thanks Joe! These dates for future months dvd releases are very helpful. Wish there was a permanent spot/blog on this site where these future months’ release dates could be logged for easy reference… maybe with the understanding that these release dates are offered by bloggers so no one will get on Michael’s case if a dvd isn’t released on the exact month/date as stated.

i was just thinking … i wonder when zombieland comes out : )

out of the entire list in feb the only movie i be paying 1.00 for would be zombie land nothing else i would want for 1.00 … maybe cabin fever 2 but some reason i think that may be on SCI FI before it goes to DVD

first in line for 2012 (wanted to see that but wouldnt pay 10 bucks for a ticket)

I suspect Sony will regret the deal they have with Redbox when they release Zombieland.

Redbox is indeed buying their WB, Universal, and Fox dvds from stores like Target because WB has rental copies of their movies in video stores, but Redbox carries the normal versions. I realized this because I was on the message board for The Final Destination on IMDB and there was somebody complaining about how the 3D version isn’t on the copies in video stores because it’s a rental copy. The version in Redbox, however, has both the 3D and 2D versions. Also, rental copies have no or little special features from the regular version. The Redbox copies have all of the features.

I noticed that happening too. I have some hearing damage and rented Harry Potter from a Blockbuster kiosk. I didn’t care if it had extra features, but it didn’t have any subtitles or closed captions either. Why they would take them out makes no sense, those aren’t even special features – no one uses them unless they NEED to. The copy I got from Redbox DID have subtitles, so now I’m even less inclined than previously to chance wasting my time with Blockbuster, whether kiosk or B&M.

I do have to say, though, that with Redbox buying some of their dvds in stores, it’s hard to know whether you’ll get widescreen or full screen/pan & scan. The Harry Potter I got from Redbox claimed to be widescreen but what I got was full screen. I complained and they said they’d look into it. A week or so later, I used a code to get it again (nothing else I wanted) and it was widescreen. So, hopefullly they’re learning how to handle all the pitfalls of buying in stores too.
