Registered Redbox email list members might have noticed an interesting ad in the email sent out this Tuesday. In the email, a large ad filling the right sidebar proclaims, “Rent The Proposal And Get $5 Off When You Buy It On DVD”.
While the details of the offer are not specified in the ad, and clicking the link currently just takes you to Redbox’s home page, it is nonetheless fascinating to see a major studio testing this type of promotion. Touchstone Pictures, which released The Proposal, is an alternate film label of The Walt Disney Company. Seeing a major studio such as Disney attempting to woo renters into purchasing should be heartening to anyone hoping for innovation and fresh ideas from Hollywood studios. It will be interesting to see what result this promotion brings and if Disney is able to glean more disc sales from Redbox renters.
Take a second to stop by the comments section and let us know what you think about this fairly novel promotion.
Very intriguing idea!
I would love to see more releases being done like this. I just hope that the coupon also applies to BDs as well.
What is novel about this? Disney has done deals like this thru regular B&M stores for decades.
e-play has a better deal. buy it for $13.99 at the kiosk and get the discount then, you don’t have to rent it first. redbox only giving $4.00 off because you have to rent one. sure you have to wait for the case, but i haven’t had any problems with that.
With all the flak about movie studios “losing money” because of RedBox, maybe the $5 off purchase coupon should apply to ALL movies? Bring in your email receipt to the Big Box stores, and get $5 off that title… Put a time limit on it… say 30 days… as an incentive.
Has anyone gotten the free rental code for today?
