Does anyone else have the problem of the “new releases” never being in the REDBOX? does that mean they are checked out or what? I have had to go to blockbuster..which I am not a fan of, to get new releases.. what is that about?

Does anyone know what the text promo code is for today, for a free rental? Thanks in advance.

    Michael,
I consider it a purchase when my credit card was charged immediately and since I was a previous member of Netflix
I still didn’t get to enter this contest and get my guaranteed prize after playing along and entering the other rounds.
I have not gotten any free movies, codes or not yet so
I haven’t reaped any benefit to date for participation in
    this site.
I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and came back to
see what has been said and done in regard to the last round.
I was hoping you had come up with a way to include all previous Netflix users.
I don’t really feel any better about the whole situation.
I can say that I can see both pro and con points from both sides.

I agree with the kind folks that suggested that the whole thing could have been avoided if you had simply worded the contest rules and requirements in a different way.

Here’s to lessons learned all the way around.

Hope those that got in enjoy their prize!

    Have a prosperous 2008 all!

Very sad to have to do a free trial through Netflix to participate. This one wasn’t very thought out. I’m already a member of Netflix and already did a free trial through them. By the comments posted, I’d say lots of others feel the same way. Your comment, Michael, that it’s not for “everyone” was disappointing as well. Why else have a contest if “everyone” can’t participate. You blew it….just admit it.

Come on folks! How about we stop ragging on Michael and give him some credit. He’s given everyone a lot of free codes. It’s a contest and yes there are going to be some people that can’t participate. So what? If you don’t like things then you don’t have to hang around here. That’s the beauty of the internet and freedom.

The Netflix “contest” is disappointing. Instead of contests, why don’t you spend some time improving the navigation on the InsideRedbox website.

I would like to make a general comment for all of you that are complaining about this site (insideredbox.com) and/or the service you get from Redbox (redbox.com). First of all, Insideredbox.com is not the same as Redbox.com and I do not believe they are actually affiliated in any legal sense, so please don’t take out your frustration from here (provider of free coupon information) on the official Redbox service (provider of cheap DVD rentals) – they are not the same. The site owner has done a good job making it look like it is affiliated with Redbox (nice favicon by the way), but the reality is this is just another independent service. As someone mentioned, this site aggregates coupon codes for Redbox (as many other sites do on the internet) and provides enough info to keep people coming back for more. The contests and ad-clicks are definitely profit motives for the site owner and are also the reason this site can exist in the first place. Honestly, why would someone take the time, effort, and money to run this site if there were not profit to be had from it. Welcome to the way of the internet – please enjoy the service as is and stop complaining.

I’m not upset with Michael, this is a wonderful site. It’s that just like a few others I have already had a free netflix trial so I’m left out of this one.
Michael, keep up the good work, this is a great site.
Happy New Year everybody, be safe!

(*sigh*) Good lord, people, relax already. This is all pretty simple; this (insideredbox.com) is a commercial website…it’s designed to make a profit. I like to think had I had the initial idea I wouldn’t have tried to monetize it quite so quickly, and certainly not with such a heavy hand, and absolutely not with an outfit as…er…slimy as Netflix, but it _is_ supposed to be profitable for the site owner, not a hobby site. Consider: at $9/signup (this isn’t “pay-per-click,” it’s “pay-per-result”), if he can get a few hundred people to sign up, he gets a chunk of change to give some prizes and make a profit. I don’t see the problem.

There’s no difference between here and any other “social networking” website like MySpace, YouTube, et al; first form a “community” (and make sure you use that term a lot), second get them to supply the content for the site, and third monetize the community for profit.

You as “community members” have a few choices:

    1) Leave never to return,

    2) Continue to use and contribute to it, or

    3) Build your own website/”community” and compete.

Note none of those options include whining because the guy is smart enough to put together a commercial website that makes a profit. That’s the whole point. Me, I wish him a lot of success.

I agree with ChrisSaw. All of you people who are complaining over signing up for a FREE trial offer are completely ridiculous and ignorant. So you’re already a member of Netflix? BOO FREAKING HOO. You can’t get a FREE gift. Do you want your entire lives to be handed to you on a silver platter? You will always find something to complain about–and never be content. I really enjoy this site, and I agree that Michael is a smart business man. I seriously can’t believe some of you that just type things without knowing what you are talking about. (Like affiliating this website with RedBox, hello people–READ). I don’t think Michael did anything wrong with this contest, and I will continue to be an active part of this community. But seriously–the whining needs to stop. You (the people freaking out) all sound like a bunch of snotty, spoiled little kids.

No one’s freaking out. We’re all simply concerned about the fairness (and legality) of a contest that is rigged so that we have to input personal information and (especially) credit card numbers in order to have a “chance to win” (if that is truly what we’re getting here).

Anyone with a modicum of common sense might assume that most of the folks using Redbox might’ve already tried the other online DVD rental services, particular the biggest one out there. If most of the people have already done the one thing that allows you to participate in a contest, then it’s not much of a contest, is it?

But then, I suppose that’s one way of making sure not all too many prizes are awarded.

I still wonder if Redbox actually approves of what’s going on here … again, visions of the reel.com debacle come to mind. But, I suppose that’s a question that will be answered either in another thread or when the company shuts down.

I belonged to Netflix previously, I did not have a problem guessing the 7 letter code word. Use your common sense, to get the code. Hint: it is NOT Netflix!!

So… my question is this: Is our GUARANTEED prize the FREE TRIAL from Net Flix? Hmmm… hardly seems like that is something that should be titled a ‘guarantee’. This question has yet to be confirmed or denied. IS THIS OUR GUARANTEED ITEM??

I love InsideRedBox.com however, this one seems like it was reaching a bit….. Sorry Mike!

    emadamczyk

there’s plenty of hints to submit the correct code word. I don’t want to sign up for Netflix either, but don’t blame the lack of info. ;-)

  18. Member [Join Now]
    vigilante407

Odd, now if you go in to guess the code, it asks for an 11-letter word. Wonder when that got changed? And why? Too many people guessing without jumping through the hoops?

    diabeticderek

Hey, if anyone has recently subscribed to the free Netflix deal, or if you happen to still have the confirmation email, you will be able to get the code word from that email. Now it’s an 11-letter codeword? Man, I wish we had more information than that. Information is a good thing. Anyhow, I was able to look at that confirmatin email and get the necessary information out of it, and therefore found the codeword! Does anyone know what the guaranteed prize is?

  20. Member [Join Now]
    diabeticderek

Hey Michael, you say you read every email that is posted here, so I have a question for you since I don’t know how to contact you otherwise.

I found the 11-letter codeword. It is 5:13am my time right now here in Nevada, and I found the code word around 5:00pm and submitted it. The contest supposedly ended when 2007 did, but the webpage said that I still won the guaranteed prize!

So my question is: Will you still give me the prize since your program said that I do, and because I found the codeword?

    Thanks!

@derek – Yes, to you and everyone who slipped in under the radar, you will still get it even if it was after 2007.

All will be notified and prizes delivered in the next 2-3 weeks.

    Have a Happy New Year!

I noticed that the secret word had changed, if we entered the first secret word, are we still eligible?

    mlfrankie

I would like an answer to Nick’s note above. I entered the first time when you asked for a 7 letter word and no one told me it changed to amn 11 letter word. I joined Netflix just for this and because I didn’t know it changed, I am going to get the guaranteed prize??????
Where is this 11 digit code and how do I get it to you since I already entered with the 7 digit. I have the confirmation email from Netflix?
Would just appreciate an answer and be given what is due to me for following your directions.
    Thanks,

    nick and mlfrankie,

Of course you get credit for entering the correct codeword. The codewords did change during the rounds to help prevent cheating, but as long as you entered the correct codeword when it was asked for, you are fine.

The codewords did change during the rounds to help prevent cheating

Yeah, we wouldn’t want anyone to share any secret codes on this website, now would we?

But thanks much for defining “irony” for me…

I am confused because everyone was hinting the code word as Netflix to begin with and that is not what I came up with and it did say I had entered the correct word. Am I in this drawing or what? I have never heard a thing about the “guaranteed prize” but I did the free trial of Netflix and entered the only word I could come up with when I did. It accepted it. HELP!!! So far none of my questions have been answered. Really discouraging.

The funny thing about most contests is not the winning of the prizes. Contests are a lot like your birthday or Christmas. As a young child you would stay up as long as you could on Christmas Eve. Waiting to get that glimpse of Santa Claus. In the morning, you would wake up and see all of your toys. Yes, it was a blast to get all that cool, new stuff, but at the end of the day, when all is said and done, you say to yourself, that’s it? I was that excited over that? Half, if not more, of the fun in a contest is the excitement that you feel that this time it will be your turn. You know that you are going to win the new car, the lotto, whatever. You win, or you lose, and you think to yourself, I got so excited about this? What do you then do? You psyche yourself all up for the next go round! So what if you can’t win? The fun is there in the winning, but it is also in the anticipation.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the “guaranteed” prize was a $25 Visa giftcard, but it’s now 12 days in to 2008…That’s half of the 2-3 week time frame during which we were told to expect our prizes. Hope we get some word soon. I haven’t even received a notification.

It’s a little strange, because last week’s emailing said there would be more details within the week.

But still nothing to worry about. If Michael had a dollar for each time one of us missed a deadline, that prize would be huge.

But there was really no deadline, and he’s still within his timeframe. If there’s not even so much as an update by mid-February, then you can put on your witch-hunting gear. :)

    Hey guys,
I was the winner in the first round and I have a confirmation email from a site (not inside redbox) that my prize was shipped. So be patient and I’ll let you know when I recieve the prize in hand. So far Michael has been honest with this. Give him some time, he’s probably one person trying to run this site along with a real job. He’s been pretty cool so far and I have confidence in him.

So it’s 10:35pm on Jan 19th. I haven’t received any confirmation email or anything of the sort. 2 more days, and it’ll be the end of the 2-3 weeks. What’s up?
