Looks like Blockbuster is not going to go down without a fight to Netflix and Redbox.

In a somewhat unexpected move, they have announced that they will add video games to their Total Access service.

Blockbuster will be adding this sometime in the second quarter as a pilot program, with plans to roll it out nationally sometime this summer. Will this change cause you to take a second look at Blockbuster?

It may indeed be time to take another look at Total Access and see if they can offer something of value and compete again in the marketplace.

Note: A commenter on the original article noted that Netflix has recently been advertising GameFly in their mailers, possibly signaling their entry into this as well. Perhaps a whole new war is coming…

Someone needs to tell Redbox that the way to end this war is to offer a monthly subscription fee. I am a blockbuster subscriber, but I would be on that in a heartbeat. Pay a monthly fee, take as many movies a month as you want, 1 or 2 or 3 at a time, keep either unlimited amount of time….Genius!

Actually, my wife and I use both blockbuster total access and redbox, and Total Access has has both games and movies available since the time we signed up, guess we must be part of the pilot program already! (for about three months now??)

nah – KISS – this dollar a day works – keep it simple…

Even the monday coupon works – the few that use the coupon either keep the movie for the week, or return it on tuesday, while paying up and getting the new release, which they’ll still keep till the weekend.

Remember, those reading this board are not the typical customers. We will use codes and promptly return the movies the next day, using multiple CCs, to minimize our out of pocket.

The regular customer will pick a movie – heck even on Tuesday, and even reserve it, keeping the movie for 2-3 days, paying 2-3 per movie.

I already use blockbuster total access because I can rent as many movies as I want and exchange mailers in the store. I use redbox once a week on Monday ;) .
