Redbox Update – Summer is here!

I hope you had a great weekend – I know I did. My family and I spent time up in Logan, Utah with some other family members.

We went to a few concerts, went swimming, attended a birthday party… and ate too much food! Incidently, we even rented from a Redbox while we were there (with a free code, of course!). So, if you know anyone in the Logan area, let the know about Redbox and this website so they can get a great deal on movies, too!

With the first official day of summer coming up tomorrow, we are starting to see the summer movie season heating up. This week we have some popular films being released, and I am adding a new feature to the site a bit later today.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Last week we asked what you thought could be done to improve the Redbox. There were two answers that overwhelmed the rest: Adding a seperate return slot (or just making returns faster) and having a later return time.

If you would like to give your two cents on last week’s topic, just click here and leave your comment at the bottom.

Now, on to this week’s question. It is a two-parter, and is keeping with last weeks theme.

Question: Considering this website – InsideRedbox.com – what is your favorite feature of the site, and what would you most like to see added to the site to make it better?

Thanks for everyone and the contributions. By participating you will make Redbox better for everyone who uses it.

THIS WEEK IN MOVIES

It looks to be a strong week for movies. Check them out.

The movies are: Eight Below, Syriana, The Hills Have Eyes, Once Upon a Wedding, Game 6, and for the kids, Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp’s Adventure.

Almost all of these movies have gotten good reviews, and I definitely plan to check out ‘Eight Below’. If you have seen any of these, definitely let us know what you thought by visiting the Redbox Forum.

REDBOX CODES

This week one new code was added:

DVDONME

And remember, the code ‘MONDAY’ only works on – you guessed it – Monday. So, make sure you use it next week, but don’t bother trying it any other day.

NEW FEATURES

Last week when I added back the ‘Redbox Codes by City/Market’ section, I wanted to add something else to the section that I didn’t have time to add. That is a ‘Untested Codes’ section. Later today when you click on one of the Redbox markets and scroll down to the bottom you will see this new section.

This section will let you know of codes that have been reported working recently in other areas, but have not yet been tested in your particular market. Try them out and you may be pleasantly surprised!

OK, that is all for this week. As always, I hope you have a great week, and make sure you come back and visit us often to report on codes you have used and find the latest codes for even more free movies.

Until next time – happy renting!

Well this past weekend I rented four movies and couldn’t use any codes to get any free movies everyone I used was invalid.

I would like the time to change from 7pm to Midnight to return a movie. I would also like to see that updates, like what is online of new movies just released, actually be in the Redbox that you rent from. Most of the time the Redbox in my neightborhood is somewhat limited on titles to rent.

    Thanks,

    GcC43

The CODES are by far the most valuable item listed on this site.

I would LOVE to see a search engine, by zip code, that could tell you what store has the movie you would like to rent that night, and how many copies are available. I don’t think it is necessary to have a reserve feature, as the movies are only $1.00, however, a search feature would be very useful!

My family and I have really enjoyed using the Red Box. We usually rent at least 1 DVD a week. I have a hard time finding any valid codes – and have only gotten 1 DVD without a charge. Also, where I live the Red Box is always down. It is super annoying! I have had this problem 4 times now.

The volunteer participation feature of the code list is very cool. It’s nice to see if people in my area have had success with certain codes. We just got a redbox in a Smiths store closer to my house, so I’ll be using RedBox and the codes from this site a lot more often! Maybe it would be cool to give us the option to have email or text message alerts of new codes as they become available.

I would like to see the DVD Return give you the option to add feedback. For example: Disc was scratched and unreadable – this could earmark that disc to have it taken out of circulation and/or replaced.

Another idea would be to have a quick return feature where even when someone else is browsing through available titles you could walk up and insert a movie in the slot and return it without interrupting them. That would probably take some hardware upgrades and maybe an external button being I think the slots are sealed when not in use.

I tried Redbox for the first time this past weekend. I used two different codes to get free rentals. (DVDONME & FREEDVD1) I did try using “DENVER” and it showed “invalid”. Both movies, “The Ringer and “Yours, Mine & Ours” were good movies. I will be using Redbox more often. Blockbuster has lost my business about a year ago. I won’t pay $4.50 to rent a movie ever again.

So… my favorite feature is obviously the codes…

    Re: Redbox in general…

    1. We need more “kids” friendly movies… maybe just more qty in the machine.

    2. More locations where there isnt a mcdonalds… although I would just like a mcdonalds closer. (Anybody have some startup money?)

    3. Faster Return

    4. Faster Checkout, we always have lines of 5-6 people.

What I appreciate most about the site, is how the codes are broken down by geographic area. I find that it seems to make a big difference-we’re in the NorthEast, and I’ve found codes used in other areas to be invalid here.

Some of the other improvements to the box, that others have mentioned, would be grand- but my expectations for change is low…we are talking about a buck here. I haven’t come across any damaged DVD’s yet, that WOULD be a huge drag.
