Back in April we reported on the credit card skimmers Redbox had found on a few of its kiosks.

Redbox kiosk credit card readerRedbox did a very good job of informing its customers of this issue, and it looks like they are being proactive to keep it from happening again.

The photo to the right was taken yesterday at a Redbox near my home. Notice the red “blocks” that have been placed above and below the credit card reader.

These blocks prevent the placement of credit card skimmers close enough to the card reader to be effective. They are welded into place, which should prevent them from being removed.

I think this a a step in the right direction, and likely the best they could do without redesigning their kiosks entirely. Perhaps future kiosks will employ even better measures to prevent this problem.

What do you think, is Redbox doing enough to protect your privacy and the theft of your information?

Good for Redbox! I’m sure things will get worse before they get better – and this is exactly the type of response needed to make things get better.

I have seen this change at any of my ‘Boxes in OKCity, but I haven’t seen the new screens you reported 2 weeks ago either. I’m still looking forward to that improvement.

The new blocks have beeen added to some of the machines in Minnesota. I suspect they will get them all done very shortly.

these blocks are very affective…I have seen them on almost every red box in STG Utah.

They need to get rid of the protruding slots to make this a completely non-issue.

I have not seen these in the Appleton, Wisconsin machines yet…. I am more aware of what skimmers look like so I am always on guard for these anyways ;-)

    Help!

I have been trying to get in touch on the phone. I have waited sooo long but with no avail.

I rented the movie – The Tomb of Jesus Christ last night. It was messed up – when we looked at the tape, it was all scratched.

We returned it today and are you going to give me a refund for the DVD we did not see?

My Red Box Store is at BelAir Walerga and my zip code is 95843.

Sorry, I do not know how else I could reach you but by this comment!

    thanks,
