Redbox Officially Announces Blu-ray

Redbox has finally made an official announcement regarding the stocking of some Blu-ray titles in its kiosks.

While our readers have seen select Blu-ray titles in kiosks across the country for some time, this the first time Redbox has made a statement about it.

The titles will continue to rent at the price of just $1/night, and as of right now Blu-ray titles can not not be reserved online. It is unclear whether promo codes will work with these titles, but it seems like they should.

So, if you have seen Blu-ray on your Redbox, let us know what location, city and state so others in your area can check them out to.

Personally, I have not heard of or seen any Blu-ray titles here in Utah yet, but will let you know when I do.

Enjoy!

I have checked four different redbox units near Stockbridge, GA (Suburb of Atlanta) and none of them are carrying blu-rays. Hopefully Redbox will start spreading and the wealth and i am praying the codes would work too but i doubt it.

I’ve only seen 1 Blu-Ray movie and it was Pirates of the Caribbean here in San Antonio, TX. I believe it At Worlds End it may have been Dead Man’s Chest thought. It was at the Walgreens location at San Pedro and Cypress near San Antonio College and across the street from the McDonalds location.

Redbox should at least announce which cities are destined for Blu-Ray so that we can go check it out.

How can you tell if a Redbox has any Blu-rays? Can you search for them online?

No, you have to check the individual kiosk.

    Thanks vpaturi.

How are they identified as Blu-ray at the kiosk? Do the titles say Blu-ray when you browse the movies or can you search for blu-ray?

I haven’t seen them at my redbox, but i am assuming you can sort through the titles and just look at Blu-Ray’s. Just like now how you can go through the list alphabetically or by genre.

No Blu-Rays seen here in Akron-Canton Area. I am curious also, how you identify them at the redbox…do you have to arrange by format, do you tell only when you pick a movie, or are then mixed with all titles. No good answer on this yet.

At a 7-Eleven (Dean & University) in Orlando, FL, I found “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” on BD a couple of weeks ago, and “The Happening” at a Wal-Mart on Colonial drive. In Port Richey, the Wal-Mart on 19 had a bunch of BDs available, including a few episodes of “Planet Earth”.

I work with VBG. To find out why this is important, click here.

You put in New Blu-Ray movies with a cost that is guaranteed to be over $20 to a way smaller audience and you only charge $1. Brilliant!!!

In Orlando, FL at Wal-Mart there are some blu-ray movies… I know Iron-Man is one because it spat out the Blu-Ray instead of the DVD…I don’t have Blu-Ray which was not cool.

DStew, the listing didn’t say it was a Blu-Ray?

It still isn’t clear to me how the kiosks identify what titles are Blu-ray?
