Another batch of crappy looking new releases/horror slasher movies. I’m starting to think Hollywood–or is it Redbox– doesn’t have quality movies anymore. I can find more little known gems–indies/ Sundance movies–at the library than Redbox. Wish Redbox would start trading their horror slasher movies that have no plot other than gore, sex, gore–for a little more quality indies/sundance movies to fill their kiosks between big movie releases.

Redbox is geared towards the latest-big-movie renters, they have a limited capacity of 500/machine and are cheap at $1/night but they can make good money by renting the same big movie DVD several times a week. They can’t stray too far from that formula because “small movies” wouldn’t be rented as often and if most of their DVDs sat waiting in the machine 6 out of 7 days a week they would eventually go broke.

Hopefully they can find a better balance, though. We may find out soon. I think one of the reasons they gave away weekly free codes was to build consistent repeat business, customers who think of Redbox as their first option when they want a movie. If they can reduce use of free codes and still keep those hooked customers coming back, I think they can expand the selection and make even more money.

I went to Blockbuster with my kids, they are really digging their own grave, I won’t spend the 4.+ per movie again, they also get you with the food&candy when you could get the same thing in any store with Redbox. The only advantage is that you can mill around a half hour and browse for free then leave .
We live near 3 different locations, so it is so easy to just go to another kiosk to see if it’s in goodluck :)

Also agree on this week’s selection being poor, unless you like horror movies.
Next week should have a better selection with Defiance – Daniel Craig, and the following week with Gran Torino and The International

Yeah…Just got email from Redbox with upcoming new releases. Looks like a better selection ahead with “Defiance” and also looking forward to seeing “Revolutionary Road” on June 2. Thanks to a neighbor and his netflix, just watched “The Reader” –a quality movie also starring Kate Winslet.

I got an email from Redbox today and “The International” wasn’t on the list of movies to come so I don’t think they are going to be carrying it.

That’s strange, mine didn’t list The International. Well i’m glad they are going to have it cause I want to see it!

You are a moron if you liked that movie. I didn’t laugh once the entire movie!

Nice name calling, are you a child? I thought Mallcop was cute and funny and appropriate, for once, to watch with my family. I think that it is much better than a lot of comedies that resort to nasty tricks, bathroom humor , filthy language and objectifying women. It was worth a dollar and if you are movie crazy than you should keep your negativity less personal because it detracts from what you think, norespect for your opinion now. ;)

I fully agreed with you deeroni9577. My grandkids were over this past weekend and I rented Mallcop and we “all” enjoyed it sooooo much. I laughed at my kids laughing. The other ‘comedies?’ are indeed full of foul lanuage and inuendos that you can’t really enjoy with the kids even when they are young teenagers.
The selection at redbox is limited. Yes, it is a dollar, but if the selection is not there, then ‘what’s’ to rent??

Yes I am a child, but what i’d like to know is WHAT was funny about this movie? I loved the King Of Queens and thought Kevin James was hilarious in that, but Mall Cop just SUCKED! I wanted to like it I really did, but I found absolutely NOTHING funny about it at all. So it sounds like YOU’RE the child because you have the IQ of a 4 year old if you think that movie was funny!!!!!! Oh and by the way, you had respect for my opinion before? Remember…. Opinions are like Aholes, everyone has one and they all stink!

WHAT IS GOOD? I think I will go to see some in theaters instead of waiting for Redbox… Star Trek, X-Men , night at the Museum was so-so
that can wait for DVD p.s. isn’t it cheap enough? Don’t you have a credit card? gotta go have fun:0

Out of the BIG TIME DVDS released within the past 30 days or so, I actually liked “Frost/Nixon” better than “The Wrestler”. Haven’t seen “Curious Case Ben Button” yet though… Maybe you could get one of these on June 1st. I think I’ll get Vladymir–or however you spell that movie about Hitler starring Tom Cruise. Think it got a B rating on Yahoo.

I WONDER WHY REDBOX DECIDED NOT TO PUT , “KILL SHOT”, IN ITS KIOSKS ON 26 MAY? I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MOVIE WAS NOT ON ITS LIST TO BE STOCKED. WELL, MY REPLY TO THEM WAS THAT IF THEY WANTED TO LOSE CUSTOMERS TO “OTHER” SERVICES IT WAS NO LOSS TO ME.

No, you can get it at Moviecube too. That is if you want crappy customer service and don’t want to know if your movie was returned or not. I tried them a few weeks ago and I got an email that I rented the movies but never got confirmation that they were returned. The customer service was the worst I’ve ever seen. Enough said.
