Here we are in the first few days in June, and Redbox has another promotion for us…
This month Redbox will give you a free rental when you rent 2 movies at the same time. There are some specific terms and caveats, though, so read on for all of the details…
The Good:
- You can get up to 1 free movie everyday in the month of June.
- Free movies are always nice!
The Not-as-Good:
- This does not work with online rentals. You will have to rent directly from the kiosk to get the codes.
- You MUST rent the 2 movies at the same time (in the same transaction), and they must be paid rentals. So, don’t try and use a promo code to get another promo code!

:) - You can only earn 1 free rental per day. So, if you rent 4 movies (or 6, or 8) at the same time you still only get one free rental for that day. Not sure how multiple credit cards and email addresses come in to play here, but you can always try and see what happens.
- The promo codes that are issue cannot be shared, and must be used within 7 days after you receive them.
Redbox says that your promo code will be emailed to you 72 hours after your rental transaction, and you will have 7 days to use the code after it is sent to you.
Also noted, the promo is valid for DVD and Blu-ray rentals, but game rentals to not qualify for this promotion.

Thanks go to “slidecage” for bringing this to my attention.
Enjoy!
Considering Redbox June releases include Shutter Island, Edge of Darkness, Wolfman, The Crazies, The Last Station, Invictus, etc., this is a good month for releases especially combined with this deal!
I was at my local Blockbuster Store yesterday here in PA. The clerk, with whom I know very well, stated that as of today, June 3, 2010, all stores will have new pricing. There will not be anymore one day rentals for $3.00. The price is going up to $5.00 per dvd or blu ray and you can keep them for 5 days. I don’t think its fair. I dont need a movie for 5 days. But if I return the movie within a day or so, Blockbuster is definitely making money for I still would have to pay $5.00. I wonder how long this will last. Any info?????????
Until they close their doors.
TOM,
Are you at all aware of the MOVIE GALLERY/HOLLYWOOD VIDEO stores closing all over the country? They had the same problem one flat fee for 5 day rentals. It did not change and I would’nt look for BLOCKBUSTERS to either any time soon .Every company is still hurting due to the recession and they are trying to make back what they have lost.I will tell you this,if enough customers fill out a customers comment, then maybe they might bring it back for certain days. Sorry, my MOVIE GALLERY closed and now I rent from RED BOX.I am able to rent more movies now because of the price difference.I like it a lot better.
sincerly,
LYNN
Make sure you enter your email address in at each purchase or you won’t get your promo code emailed to you.
Thank you for explaining that one for me.. When I read rent 2 and get one free, I was confused because I did rent 2 movies a few hours ago
and I dont remeber reading or offer about a free one. NOW THAT YOU SPELLED IT OUT ALL OF US. I did give my email ( Was I drunk? :)~ It’s Been a long day) but now I see they will mail me the Free one due to my sucker-ness of giving my email away.
yup, and this will have a two fold effect:
1. The people that I always see in front of me, who skip the email
screen will miss out on Free Rentals, which means Redbox will make money.
2. People who enter their email at the end of the screen
will have to do so per credit card, which will enable Redbox to
further tighten up and clean up their databases of email address/credit cards/ to which household.
You’ll see, at the end of this promotion, don’t be surprised if no matter
how many cards you have, when you try to scam “free” rentals,
you’ll start seeing more of the “we’re sorry, that code has already been used”.
And that will be because the Customer Database will get “tightened” up
and while multiple cards might be allowed, cards and email and accounts
will be tied together to further prevent multiple code use and sharing.
There is a “fix” for that potential problem… A different email address for each CC you use! Mine are tied in that I don’t have to type in the email addy each time, the system remembers it, and I just have to OK it. Simple enough!
UBM…I don’t understand people who rent from Redbox but skip or click ‘no thanks’ on the Redbox email screen. Your email rental receipt/return confirmation is the only proof as a renter you have should there be a conflict later down the road: like you get charged $25 for a Redbox dvd you know you returned! Also, for this rent 2 get one free Redbox promo, I’d think it best that each renter use only one of their credit or debit cards during this promo period so that all rental transactions can only be tied to the same card with the same email address. This will help also with any customer service disputes if you don’t receive your free rental codes. Also, not kissing butt here, but just wanted to say I enjoy your posts on the Community Section; especially the one about a day in the life of a redbox kiosk service person….Ahhh, that was you who posted that, I think –Anyway, I like your Community posts! They are informative without pressured opinions or judgment :-)
I’ve had the same email address tied to all my credit cards for eons and have always been able to use the same code for all my credit cards. I think your concern is unfounded. After all, it’s quite possible that a husband and wife would use the same email address, but have their own credit cards.
If you’re REALLY concerned, I can understand using multiple email addresses. Seems like a lot of hassle though.
what a rip off. need to rent 2 dvd then get a free dvd . Who come afford it but rich peeps .
You are complaining about spending $2 to get 3 movies? Only rich peeps can afford that?
WOW
No kidding! If $2 is too expensive for you, noone is stopping you from renting a $5 movie from anywhere else. If you don’t have a real reason to complain, why bother saying anything. I think you just want a rise out of the rest of us.
As a former employee of redbox this buy one get one free idea is a very good thing in paper. The first buy one get one free was a bust, the software department messed up the link and we had to clean up their mess, well also the outsourcing company that redbox is using to now for their customer service which is conviniently located in Canada, and got rid off their customer service center in Illinois. The only people that should have been outsourced were the idiots at the software department and the billing department, not to mention the Field techs that are so lazy that do not do their work properly and some of the machines get full, oh well I might just be bitter, I am just tired of getting the blame for something that is not my fault. I would not do any business with them, hopefully this will make some people stop doing business with them as well.
Wow, talk about a whole lot of nothing. I wish I had that 30 seconds of my life back.
He/she apparently was one of the customer service reps that got downsized. I am sure he/she provided the same “quality” customer service as he/she has demostrated in their post. Ha.
The service that I personaly provided was the best, regardless if it was a liar trying to get away with returning a movie late or trying to keep a movie and not paying for it. The reason for the outsourcing as I stated it was not because of quality but the impotence of the other parts to work properly, ie bad software and billing issues. You people are as disconnected as redbox management.
Then I wish a lay off to you too, and see how you feel you moron.
PLEASE NOTE
Promo code is valid for the first night of rental only, and does
not apply to Blu-ray disc(TM) or video game rentals.
Will probally end up renting
shutter island and from paris with love on tuesday (june 8)
wolfman and crazies on June 29
chestnut and something else on june 30
to get two free movies on July 6
so probally end up spending 6 bucks for 9 movies
other older movies might think of renting
the stranger , the messinger spy next door
the new daughter fallen meadow woods
so might end up with 5 free movies if i really do grab all of them
This is great news! I just hope that I actually get the codes this time!
On a random note for June releases, I think it would be awesome if Redbox carried U2 360 At the Rose Bowl and Bruce Springsteen: London Calling. I know it won’t happen, and I’m buying them anyways, but it would still be cool!
just another scam and cheat from redbox as before will be glad to see there end in my city!!!!!!!
Wait. So you want them to leave your city so you have to start paying higher prices at the store again? That makes no sense.
Well, I just rented 2 movies at the same time (in the same transaction), and I paid the rentals. I did gave my email address? BUT I DIDNT GET ANY FREE RENTAL CODE ???
It states it will be emailed to you within 72 hours.
I think it’s a fair deal, not a good deal. My rentals are still $1.50/night so if Redbox follows through and gives me my free code for renting 2 DVDs, then it’d be the equivalent of $1/night rentals, which it should be brought back to, IMHO.
That 50 cents (and the new delay windows) has made me go from 6 rentals a month to 1-2 rentals a month because i’m not as gung-ho on renting what redbox has been offering at the new pricing/rules.
I do like how redbox told the local paper they do not comment on test markets and results when the local paper finally figured out we were guinea pigs in this city for $1.50 rentals and did a story and asked redbox for comment.
watching movies all the time will make you fat. I know this first hand when they be giving out freebie codes.
Now I rather spend 2 hours of my life in working out. I’m glad them freebie codes are not as heavily spread like before or else I will be in trouble again.
I can’t believe some of these comments. If u don’t want ur free dvd then thaat is ur loss. Most of us who appreciate good free stuff. To u prudes who r too good to save a dollar post ur comment under comments for somebody else to use.
I do not feel it is fair that customers who rent on-line do not get this promotion?
I agree with gandhawk
i havent gotten any codes via text since the week when I first signed up. i emailed them today to tell them.I looked at my account and they have my mobile number right. Maybe they will be nice and give me 4 codes for the mondays that I didnt get a code. Think that will happen? Or maybe I just should have contacted them sooner. I LOVE the Redbox and think its an awesome deal…even though I usually end up keeping the 3 movies that I rent at one time for 2 nights but even then its still cheaper than going to the local video rental place and paying 4 bucks a night
I just received my first “rent two, get one’ code. It’s summer and I will game the system by renting two releases “live” from the kiosk”. The free code is good for a week so I have to think this out.
PAY 0!!!
I am wondering why on the last couple of online reservations I reserved a few movies and the first time, one of the movies showed a charge of $0.00? The next time (today) I reserved 5 movies and two of them showed a charge of $0.00… I love it but was wondering why I am earning this and how.. And those posters that keeep saying redbox is a rip-off, well they are being tarded on purpose. (excuse my tard word)
Deb
that sux, I mostly got my redbox movies via reservation…Redbox needs to give the reservation customers free codes too or it really not a good marketing promotion.
When I enter my e.mail account I get a repy to enter a correct e.mail account. What am I doing wrong. Is there a difference if you use lower case of upper case. If so how do I change it when I am entering the email address
i rented 2 movies and its been 4days and still no free code.. has anyone else had this problem.
I got my code on 6/8 and it says it expires on 6/13. That’s only 5 days, even though Redbox said the codes were supposed to be good for 7 days. Has anyone else encountered this?
Also have not gotten email and now in 5th day since rental. (2 movies tuesday, one transaction, paid for 2, didn’t reserve online, had correct email at checkout and stuck my tongue out just so) promotion starting to smell.
I also rented over a wk ago and followed the rules of the promotion. I emailed them twice and have not gotten a response. Calling them is useless bc no one ever answers!! I believe this rent 2 get a free rental is a scam!!! How upsetting seeing as I rent from Redbox almost daily!!
I received my code 75 hours after my two rentals so it was a few hours late but I did receive unlike their last email code promo. I would call them. They always answer for me you just have to be on hold sometimes for a while. The last time it was worth my wait, they gave me two codes for my problem.
I am happy to report that this time the promo code was emailed to me. It was a day or two late, but did arrive unharmed.
I did not receive the code during the last promo they ran. Ended up emailing them (from the redbox website) the info on when I rented. Received the code the next day.
I rented 2 DVDs twice: once on June 8 and once on June 11. I did not receive the code for free rental on either of these rentals. I called and after holding for only a few minutes I talked to a CSR who confirmed the rentals and then read me, and sent me codes for 2 free rentals. His email said the codes were good for 45 days.
