Free movie monday is upon us again, and as you probably know by now, Redbox sends out the one-time use promo codes via text message to those subscribed to their SMS alerts here.

I got my code earlier than usual today.

    Stop believe the Monday codes!! It’s a gimmick to get you to show up at the kiosk!!. When the delay release of some of the movie I am interested n, There is no reason for me to rent from this service. Don’t believe in the Monday code. When you get there, it just say you already use it. “Sorry for the inconvenience”, right!

    I wanted to say that none of the promo codes have been working for me. It’s either because after they are put up, sometimes, later on it says you can only use the code at Giant or stop and shop or whatever. Anyway, just wanted to point out even though there are codes, they are not working, they are not valid.

    I tried both codes, at two location…Albertsons and McDonalds. Neither code worked…the same as last month…the kiosk gave message “this code has already been used, sorry for any inconvenience”….

    I have given up on the codes working…first Mon. of the month or any other time.

      Once the codes have been sent to a cell phone, is considered “used” as
      it is tied to an email account ( your redbox account).
      There is no more sharing of codes, only the person
      who has the email account the code is tied to can use it.

      For example, last month, I tried to get my wife to use my code
      on the way home to pick up a redbox, but she put in her
      email account, not mine, on the checkout screen and it said
      “Sorry, code has already been used.”
      I had her try it again with my email address, and it worked!

      code sharing can only be done with the general codes given out
      now on the Facebook Redbox page. SMS sent codes are one time use
      only by the account they were sent to.

        Hey UBM,

        Do you have something you can send me to verify what you are saying about these codes being tied to email addresses? That seems a bit silly to me, since it should not matter who uses a one-time use code, as long as it is only used once. Plus, it honestly seems a bit sophisticated of a scheme for Redbox to implement.

          email address is tied to your credit card you use.
          Has been this way since they simplified billing and
          got everyone’s multi card use eliminated.

          I have two credit cards & frequent close to all the machines
          in the 73119, 73122, and 73139 zip code areas on the
          redbox locator. When I swipe my card, it does the “routing, routing”
          screen and then volia, it pops up my email, which I have only
          given one to redbox, the one tied to my account.

          When I went to a new machine in the 73105 zone,
          I swiped my card, had never been to this machine
          EVER, and after “routing, routing” it popped up my email
          address already without having me enter anything!!

          so, redbox is smarter than we think….;-)

          here’s another from my local Redbox guy I see in my neighborhood…

          Call Redbox next time you have a problem
          or report a problem machine, and when they
          want to send you a free code, tell them to send it
          to the email they have on file with my Credit Card info.
          don’t give it to them, just tell them to use the one on file.
          He said you’ll be surprised.

            to answer your question though, email address tied to credit cards.
            coupon codes tied to email addresses which are part of your
            redbox account , and which you have to give either at kiosk or

            I get my grandfather ( good account) codes sent to my email
            address, and those are tied to me and are one time use.

            I can’t explain it any simpler?

            Well, yes, as long as I can remember Redbox has tied your email address to your credit card. This is not new. But, if redbox was tying a code to a specific credit card/email address, that would surprise me.

            Obviously this can be done, but just saying that it makes the process complicated and open to failure. If someone got a code and then used a new credit card, and it didn’t work, that would cause customer service issues.

            Anyway, thanks for the replies.

      You would be better off if you do not have a cell phone
      to sign up for Facebook and join the Redbox group.
      They often post codes there, and you will get those via email.

    I got my text @ 9:16 Central time and it worked fine. I have other friends who are on closed networks who never get the text, so I still wish they would e-mail it out instead since I get my e-mail on my Blackberry as well.

    Whazz is happenning Redbox? You send me the reminder for May , but i did not get the code. In previous month I receive the code late in the evening, making this very uncomfortable to jump in my car late at night to rent a movie,especially when the day is almost over.     For the second month in a row, I didn’t get the free monthly promo code. I emailed Redbox. Customer Service basically said “If you didn’t get it, we won’t send another.” The implication was I am trying to cheat them. Twice in the past six months, I have received promo codes that didn’t work and Redbox also refused to send a replacement. Nice folks.

      That’s what I did when they first put up the website, and have
      been getting codes without fail. Your phone must be able to recieve
      SMS text messages.
