Netflix has scored another deal giving it streaming content during the window typically reserved for pay-TV channels. The new agreement, with Nu Image/Millennium Films, is a multiyear deal that will provide Netflix’s streaming service with up to ten theatrical films per year shortly after they are released on DVD. Nu Image/Millennium is the studio behind such movies as The Expendables, The Black Dahlia and Righteous Kill.
The deal comes as more than 60% of Netflix’s 15 million-strong customer base have used its streaming service. Netflix plans on streaming its service through more than 100 consumer electronics devices by year’s end.
Just how worried should HBO and other pay-TV networks be about the rising threat of Netflix? Will Redbox and other competitors be able to give Netflix’s streaming capabilities a run for its money any time soon?
