It’s been nearly a year since HBO Now, the standalone streaming service from pay channel HBO, launched with much fanfare.

The service has lagged behind Netflix, Amazon, and its other competition thus far and has only netted about 800,000 paying subscribers. Is its higher price to blame?
HBO Now costs $15 per month, which is 87 percent higher than Hulu Plus, 82 percent higher than Amazon, and 66 higher than Netflix.
Speaking at a recent media and telecom conference in Palm Beach, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes said that HBO Now’s pricing is just fine, thank you very much. Said Bewkes:
“We think it’s working very well at this price in relation to [pay-TV] packages that most American homes have. There has not been cannibalization this year of HBO Now [sub] adds [compared] to the basic HBO [pay-TV] packages. We’re not trying to pursue the lower-priced strategy that some of the syndication VOD services have.

With Netflix and co. producing quite a bit of original content these days, it’s a stretch for Bewkes to dismiss them as “syndication” services. Still, is HBO Now’s content worth so much more each month than its competition?

As the economy falters, everyone is starting to cut back on monthly budget, and with more and more people cutting cable and dumping dish, HBO is just too expensive in comparison to others similar services. As Streaming becomes mainstream, it all comes down to the lowest price, not loyalty given most of us have felt these monopolies have ripped us off for far to long. PERIOD

Agreed!
The economy is not getting better as they say it is. It’s going to get worse.
HBO streaming is way to much. And I don’t see much on it.
AS people say. It all comes down to the price.. I can get Netflix & CBS streaming cheaper then HBO. And still have a few bucks left..
I’ve seen all the old GOOD classic HBO(Sopranos. The Wire, etc) No need to see them again. For the last 4-5 years they have produced NOTHING I’d want to see. I realize many people watch and re-watch the same stuff over and over.Once I’ve seen it I won’t watch it again. In addition Amazon Prime has everything from HBO so I’m covered.
Now if HBO streaming would have all the Good Old shows they had on.. Way Way back..I might think about it. But the stuff they have on now… No thanks…
