In its latest effort to leverage its brand beyond its dwindling brick-and-mortar business, Blockbuster has joined forces with Verizon Wireless to offer its Blockbuster On Demand download service on Verizon devices, starting with the just-announced Droid X.

Titles can also be purchased for $9.99, and can be watched on devices that feature Blockbuster On Demand technology. The press release for the new app can be found here, replete with eleven(!) references to the Droid X.
This move by BB and Verizon once again causes us to ask the age-old question: how many people want to watch a two-plus hour movie on a screen measuring four inches diagonally? Stand up and be counted, Insiders, if you already have or plan to watch movies on your mobile phone.

Seriously now, who is willing to pay $3.99 to watch a movie on a small phone screen? I wouldn’t even pay $0.99 to do so.
Well I wouldn’t but millions of commuters might.
Off Topic:
My local Family Video has $1 New Releases for 5 Nights ( I got The Road, She’s Out of My League) and $1 Blu-Ray per Night (I got Green Zone) . I have not been to FV in three months so this could be old news or only local.
I guess Redbox will have one less customer, now :(
It must just be a local deal because I just called them and their new releases in my area are $2.59 for one night or 5 nights, depending on the movie (weird right?) and $1 dollar for 5 nights for their old releases. So you’re very lucky, I’d rent like crazy while it lasts! By the way if their new releases are $1 for 5 nights, I wonder how much their old releases are? Man what a deal!
Don’t mean to gloat but I received a “Manger, We Miss You Call” today from Family Video and I received for 2 weeks : 50% off Movie/Game Rentals and One Free Rental. So I rented 5 more Movies for a grand total of $2.56.
Yeah justme… I will be renting like CRAZY!!!
