Dan Cryan, senior director of digital media at IHS Technology, said the following about his firm’s prognostications:

“As physical rentals and purchases decline, the home entertainment revenue stream will rely more and more on the growth potential of the digital space . . . The digital content store page is changing . . . If ecommerce can extend the kinds of content types offered and include content, such as apps, they are likely to see increased sales.”

Is your anticipated personal spending in line with what IHS is predicting here, Insiders?

    This could be right?
    It could be very wrong?

    Why it may be wrong?
More and more Cable Co’s and all are starting to put Caps on your net use. To get MORE MONEY out of you.
If Comcast gets Time Warner. ( They will). Don’t count in the Idiot FCC to do much of anything.
They caps will come soon. Do you know that if you watch just one HD movie on NetFlix/Amazon a day. You will be over you cap’ The 300 GB’s that Comcast will put in place. Are are doing so now. And keep in mind. That is just watching one movie.. And does not count your other net use.
Now if you have a family of 4, 5.. Ha! you will be over your caps in no time.. And paying up the kisser. The online streaming just may take a big hit soon..
    Just something to think about….

I refuse to “buy” anything with DRM, so I anticipate that my number of purchases will remain low for the foreseeable future.

Comcast is all ready doing it here and there. And if the get Time Warner. And they will. They have said. They will put a 300 GB cap on your use. And charge $10.00 for every 50 GB you are over.
Unless you do nothing. 95% of the people will be over the 300 GB cap in no time.
And if you think the FCC are the Government will stop this. Ha! Dream on…

Comcast isn’t enforcing a cap just yet.

Note: Enforcement of the 250GB data consumption threshold is currently suspended.

From my ‘My Current Data Usage’ page my average is about 150 GBs per month.

I would find it hard to believe a 300 GB cap is too restrictive.

Remember the word. YET! They will Enforce it when they get Time Warner…
          And your 150 is for yourself….. try a family o of 4 are 5…..
And over you go in no time….
And try watching one HD Movie on Netflix everyday for a month.. Then check your usage… Your 150. Will be pushing 300.
          Just a thought..
P.S. And get ready for the fast lane crap they will pull on you.
And your new price. Up about 30%….

I’ll pay for a movie when they let me get my hands on it. That means a disc, or a download with a standard, unencrypted format.
And, once again, a disc is just as digital as a stream or download, it just has better quality.
The more tricks the supply chain is trying to employ, the more likely I’ll be to obtain my copies for free.
And if the movie industry goes bankrupt as a result (poor them!), I won’t shed a tear – there are excellent classics to last me a lifetime.
