Roku3withHeadphonesStreaming video-on-demand (SVOD) is getting more and more mainstream, as evidenced by the latest report from research firm Nielsen. According to the new report, about two out of five U.S. homes subscribe to at least one SVOD service.

Not surprisingly, Netflix is the most popular service. The streaming company is in about 36 percent of American homes. Another interesting fact discovered by Nielsen is that SVOD homes spend 2 hours and 45 minutes each day watching TV compared to 1 hour and 57 minutes for non-SVOD homes.

Dounia Turrill, SVP  of Client Insights for Nielsen, observed the following:

“When looking at how homes with access to subscription-based streaming services compare to a typical TV home, homes with broadband and no SVOD — and even homes with no broadband at all — we see that SVOD homes really go ‘all in’ in terms of the devices that they are using through their traditional televisions . . . From DVRs to video game console usage, these homes — perhaps because of their income level — both adopt and rely on these devices at a much higher rate. Technology begets technology.”

Are you part of the 40 percent of homes that’s hooked up to a SVOD service?

40%….? Come again.. Try more like 70-80%..
Why I say that.. I have been to 10 people homes I know… 7 of them have some kind streaming deal.
Now this streaming can all take a hit maybe? Why?
If Comcast gets Time Warner. And they put Caps on your Net use.. People will find they are going to be over the Cap limit in no time.. Do you know if you watch 7 HD movies on NetFlix.. you have killed about 250 GB’s of your 250-300 GB limit Comcast wants to put on..And then add your everyday net use. Zip you are over.. The VOD thing is going to take a hit…
And people are going to stop using it when they find out the net bill is pushing 150-200 a month..
    just a thought.

Yes, I have multiple streaming devices. And yes, I am tired or reading Danofive0’s conspiracy theories. Give it a rest.

Not a surprise on how much people watch while streaming as the next episode of Tv is right there to watch already cued up for you to press play. If you’re involved in a show you can burn through time without commercial interruptions.

You also have more people watching movies with SVOD.
