Not a good week for Redbox new releases….These movies either get very poor reviews or no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes… Not sure why Across The Hall has that it was released in 2005 and now 2009 unless Redbox is thinking people will rent it now just because of some fascination with the recent death of star Brittany Murphy.

It was actually already scheduled for release on the 19th before her death.

By the way Michael, your heading is wrong. These are releases for January 19th, not January 12th.

      Agreed.

It looks like new releases for the next few weeks will be equally lame. Maybe redbox will get religion and throw a bone via redbox Replay.

        As of this post 19-1-10, 9:22 GMT…

        The Invention of Lying
        Brothers at War
        Whiteout

are listed as “checked out” @ all redbox kiosks within a searchable area.

Could there be a leak? How about a conspiracy and a cover-up?

No, it’s just those darn disks escaping, unwilling to be rented. ;)

I did notice that as well
If you look into the specific location you rent at, you will see the title but it will be faded out with the unavailable logo on top
If you just search and on the side it says checked out it may just mean that location is yet to receive that total

Anyone else notice how some of the movie studios and redbox bicker over the titles released(and i know it is ownership rights), but don’t you think it’s funny some movies dont get released, but when you walk up to a machine you see the movie with the swastika head guy right in front of your face?

            as of this posting…

“The Invention of Lying” available @ about 33% of kiosks via area search
            “Brothers at War” still MIA
            “Whiteout” still MIA
“Pandorum” available @ about 33% of kiosks via area search

I mean Blood Creek has received decent reviews, and Gamer is like a guilty pleasure, I’m pretty satisfied with this weeks movies… that and I rented The Hurt Locker for tonight.

Too bad Redbox does not carry TV titles. Weeds Season 5 is coming out this week and Big Love Season 3 was last week. Two of the best titles of the month really.

they do carrry a limited amount of shows, mostly kid’s stuff-spongebob, he man and what not, but have said that myself a number of times
it would be a good idea, like a complete different section after the movies
      all tv shows
imagine what it would be like though, ok got season 4 disc 1 here, ok got to drive across town for disc 2, disc 3 is available here, but disc 4 is out stock, wait i dont have enough time in the day to watch all these episodes!!

I think that they should put tv titles out too! I’m a BIG fan of Smallville and Secret Life.. LoL what can I say I’m a mom of two youngsters and I’m addicted to that show!!!! I think they should really consider putting seasons out for these types of shows in redbox!! Good suggestion

They (Summit) also did that on the first Twilight movie. It’s so that all the stores can have midnight release promotions, which work out better on a Friday night rather than a Monday night.

Whiteout and The Invention of Lying come out this week also. The poster on the side of my Redbox says they will both be in Redbox.

Personally, I think that nothing good is coming out this week

“The Invention of Lying” might be worthy of a promo code.

Beyond that, let’s wait until next week.

North Alabama? Redbox requires electricity. Get some electricity first and then worry about the free codes.

The last three weeks have been lame from redbox. But I guess the real culprit is Hollywood. This weeks release (1/19) really has nothing that would make for a good family movie night at home. For pete’s sake hollywood get a clue. How many households have gigantic LCD screens intended to enjoy movies with. And the average household in America is what (IMHO) a family of 4, maybe 5. And the only thing you can put out is R rated or PG-13 with huge sexual overtunes. Where’s Walt Disney when you need him most!

not everyone has money like you might to go out and buy a GIGANTIC LCD SCREEN. most people have 32 or 37 inch tvs or smaller.

now back to topic i wanted to make

      LOVE the Pandorum box cover

Over 10 million dollar box office smash….. sorry but if your movie made 10 million that is a MAJOR FLOP not a box office smash :)

Just curious on Whiteout. Wasn’t it released today the 19th as well? Why isn’t it available in Redbox yet? I thought all of the new releases were Tuesday. If you do a search on Redbox for Whiteout, it shows up in machines as Checked Out for every location. I’m confused!

How is Invention of Lying already out? It showing as some places having it. Yet Netflix is showing a release date of February 16th. That’s almost a month later.

It’s because of agreement with Warner Studios. They (Netflix) will not be getting Warner movies for 28 days after street date.

Anyone get “Whiteout” yet in their area?
    In mine, still no “Whiteout”.

Well, still no available copies of Pandorum, Whiteout, OR The Invention of Lying at ANY machine in this area. All 20 machines listed, AND several more that I had to type in the entire adress for, are completely out of these movies. Redbox doing better at stocking titles? Huh, hardly. Where’s Eric Wold now???

Just to share, all of those movies have been available in my area – they came in just a few days after the Tuesday release. Perhaps they are just checked out in your area? Of course, it is possible your area didn’t get them for some other reason, too. Redbox seems to do a lot of testing so it is never completely obvious what they are going to do. Let us know about some of the embargoed titles this week (like Amelia).

Brothers at War has NEVER been “available” at ANY of the Redbox locations even REMOTELY close to my home. I randomly put in a zip code. It was available in Yuma AZ! Pretty fishy!
