They may need to be a bit more patient, as the new service is now said to be launching between late November and mid-December.

Eric Bruno, Verizon’s VP of strategy and planning, revealed the holiday-timed launch window in a recent interview.

The service, which Bruno says “can stand on its own against Netflix [and] Amazon”, will offer a monthly subscription as well as DVD rentals from Redbox kiosks. The service will also feature a la carte movie rentals and purchases, according to Bruno.

Bruno says the service is currently being tested in the homes of several hundred Verizon employees and will go through a short period of public testing before its official launch around the holidays.

Is this service going to live up to expectations and provide a strong challenge to Netflix and Amazon, Insiders? Are you planning on using it?

If rentals are at least a dollar less than vudu or amazon redbox will dominate as for the monthly service depends on the price and content, will it have a high price but you’ll get all the new releases? Or it’ll be like netflix? Will it be on gaming consoles , tablets or smartphones?and it better have an user friendly interface with recommendations and rating system kinda like netflix cause i tried hulu plus but it sometimes frustrates me that its too hard to find something i might like

Until we hear more details on how it will be made available, pricing and selection, it’s impossible to answer those questions.

I like having the a la carte option rather than strictly by monthly membership. I’ll definitely try it, but like everyone else said, there are too many unknowns at this point.

Selection and price will determine the fate of this marriage.

Yesterday I had a FREE Redbox rental and stopped by a location with two kiosks. I couldn’t find a single thing I wanted to rent! In this case, even FREE was too expensive!

Still no information on pricing, availability, or content. Still trying to drum up interest in a phantom.

You really make it appear really easy with your presentation however I to find this topic to be actually something which I think I might by no means understand. It sort of feels too complicated and very wide for me. I’m looking ahead for your subsequent publish, I will try to get the hold of it!

As soon as there’s a Roku app, I’ll gladly give it a try.
