Redbox In Las Vegas

So, I have spent the last few weeks in Las Vegas with family, and had my first experience using a Redbox down here.

It is a different experience renting a dvd here, as the Redbox kiosk is different from the ones I have used in Salt Lake. I should clarify and say that the Redbox I personally used (inside a Smith’s grocery store) was different. The machine is much less sophisticated, doesn’t offer the ability to use promo codes for free dvd rentals, doesn’t email receipts, etc…

Also, I noticed that the new releases don’t get here for quite some time, as ‘The Island’ and ‘Bad News Bears’ just arrived yesterday.

Anyway, this got me thinking if there are many different types of Redbox kiosks out there… So, let me know what your Redbox looks like. I am assuming the standard one is like the one in the picture at the top of this page. If yours is different, let us know.

When I get back to Salt Lake next week, I will be giving more information.

Also, thanks to all of you who are posting free dvd rental codes. There are now over 25 codes posted in the Redbox codes section. So, make sure you bookmark this site and get as many free rentals as possible.

Nice site. I think it’d be helpful if there was a way to input when a promo code does *not* work in a particular area, so you can track when a code has expired or isn’t active in a particular market.

My Redbox here in Hartford looks like the one in the picture on your site, BTW. We used to have an older box (two of them side by side, actually), but it still did promo codes and such… it actually was a little cooler because you could sort by genre, new releases, and all of that. Plus, there were two boxes with often very different selections available. Now, the only option available is “browse all”, and the new releases are usually sold out for a week or two after they first get entered into the system.

I agree it would be nice to know when a code is invalid. For example, Santa is now a dead code (at least in SLC) but there is no way to update that on the promo code page.

Interesting about not being able to search by new releases etc. In SLC, you are able to sort by Release date or Title, which is very nice when looking for the newest releases. You would think that all the boxes are the same. I’ve used at least 3 different Redboxes in Utah and they have all been the same look and experience.

Well an update is that we do have high-tech in Vegas, with receipts, new releases (and TV new releases) and emailed receipts. Just a matter of time I guess :D
