Redbox Hits New Milestones, Growing Fast

Over the last few weeks Redbox has hit a handful of significant milestones that show the amazing growth they have been seeing over the past few years.

“We are incredibly proud to achieve 200 million rentals and 10,000 locations nationwide,” said Gregg Kaplan, CEO for Redbox. “Redbox’s proven technology, dedicated workforce and ability to deliver unsurpassed consumer convenience and value have allowed us to expand rapidly in the competitive home entertainment industry.”

In addition to the 200 million rentals and 10,000 locations, the article at VB mentions that Redbox now serves 25 million customers.

When I started Inside Redbox in 2005, Redbox was just testing its service in 5 markets. Now it is nationwide and growing very quickly.

They sure have come a long way. Let’s hope that they continue to listen to their customers and make the service even better for all of us.

Iwould like to see more relevant, current choices. At present,it sometimes is rather vanilla. Wake Up People. If Redbox wants
to continue to grow they must offer better selections then at present. You all know what I mean.

I have to agree with Gerry. Redbox needs to start putting some of the better new releases into their system. Besides that, I’ve been happy with the price (at only $1 and free movies on Mondays) and 99% of the DVDs I’ve rented are in great shape (minor scratches).

I’m confused why people complain about redbox’s new release selection on here. They get all the same major releases that Blockbuster would. It’s not redbox’s fault that new release’s have been weak lately, but now it’s picking up as summer movies are coming on dvd.

Do you mean you’d rather see redbox stock more obscure, artsy independent movies? Keep in mind, you find redboxs at McDonald’s and Walgreen, not Starbucks and Borders. They’re going for a blockbuster-ish demographic.

Do you mean that they don’t stock enough of the new releases so they’re not available? Netflix and Blockbuster get the same problems, I actually find I have a better changce of getting a really new release from a redbox.

I too felt the selection was weak and needed to be improved upon until last week I went to Blockbuster looking to find something new that I hadn’t seen and Redbox is doing a very good job in selecting what’s available. There may be a couple that they didn’t get but maybe were exclusive with Blockbuster or someone else. If Blockbuster doesnt have any greater new release movies than redbox then it’s what’s available not poor selection by redbox.

The selection has been bad everywhere! Nothing got released in August due to the Olympics…it always happens that way when something major is occuring….trust me

Things will be rolling….there are great sites out there that tell you whats coming….redbox has pretty much all of them.
