WHO’S IN AND WHO’S
ON THE BUBBLE?
Welcome to March… Flickness
Settle down now, it’s not a competition. There’s plenty of March for you to rent all of these hot new releases online.
First, catch last year’s most talked about comedy— Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make (deep breath) Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Sacha Baron Cohen brings Borat to the big screen in a trip across the U.S. to see what the country is all about. Enjoy lots of irreverence, lots of laughs, and one scene that – —trust redbox on this one – —you won’t soon be able to shake.
Follow that up with Hellboy: Sword of Storms. This animated continuation of the popular Hellboy story takes the valiant hero all the way to Japan. When a professor gets the itch to crack open a forbidden scroll, he becomes possessed by the twin demons of Thunder and Lightning. (He didn’t see that coming? And he calls himself a professor?) Ron Perlman and Selma Blair provide the voices.
Jail? Hilarious? Sure, if Bob Odenkirk has anything to do with it. He directs Let’s Go to Prison, a comedy starring Dax Shephard, Will Arnett and Chi McBride. Shepard plays a career car thief who decides to frame the only son (Arnett) of a particularly stern judge, getting the son thrown in jail, and ruining the judge’s legacy. As usual, Shephard plays a real rocket scientist.
That’s it for this week’s new releases. But don’t forget about last week’s releases. They’re all available online.
In Stranger Than Fiction, Will Ferrell takes on a slightly less goofy role—a regular Joe who begins hearing a voice that seems to be narrating his life. Dustin Hoffman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Emma Thompson play the characters who surround Ferrell as his story unfolds.
Or join the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar on a trip to a creepy farmhouse in The Return. Gellar plays a businesswoman who follows her chronic nightmares to the farmhouse where a murder took place 15 years earlier. Sam Shepard also stars.
Finally, pay your respects to JB and KG —the driving forces behind the self-proclaimed greatest band in the world—in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny. Jack Black and Kyle Gass star as the two slackers who meet, form a very important band and set out across the country to rock.
