Netflix has scored another content coup with a new deal signed with movie studio Miramax. The agreement, the first of its kind for Miramax, will bring such hits as Shakespeare in Love, Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting to Netflix’s streaming service.

Financial terms of the deal, which goes into effect next month, were not revealed. Netflix will rain immediate access to several hundred Miramax titles in June, and dozens of others will be added on a rotating basis.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said the following about the new agreement:

Netflix is thrilled to enter into this deal with the new team at Miramax . . . Existing relationships with management and a shared affinity for these great films make this an important deal for both companies and for our members, who will enjoy instantly watching movies from one of the truly great film libraries for many years to come.

Miramax CEO Mike Lang was similarly enthusiastic:

From day one, we’ve been very clear about the importance of digital and our desire to respond to the significant pent-up demand for our films – delivering to consumers whenever and wherever they want . . . This agreement is an important first step in our digital strategy. Netflix has always been a trailblazer, with a tremendous track record of innovation and quality customer service. We’re thrilled to now be in business with them as we build and revitalize the proud Miramax brand.

As mentioned above, the money that has exchanged hands in the deal has not been disclosed. Given the pinch that Netflix has been feeling lately from Hollywood demanding more money for its content, chances are Netflix paid a pretty penny for the rights to Miramax’s catalog.

Will Netflix continue to cough up what it takes to keep its content library growing? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Miramax’s content as gone down hill since the Harvey & Bob sold and left.

I would bet that NetFlix got the rights on the cheap!

As long as Miramax content is in HD, sounds good to me.
