Giant robots + explosions + Megan Fox = $$$

Ever wonder what your favorite stars and Hollywood personalities are making? Vanity Fair has compiled a list of the top 40 Hollywood earners in 2009. The list includes the highest paid actors, directors and producers and was calculated by interviewing agents, lawyers, studio execs and actors. One lesson that can be gleaned from the list is that it’s often better to be behind the camera than in front of it, as only three actors cracked the top ten last year.

Take a glance through the list and then hit the comments. Let us know you think is earning their paycheck and who you think might be a little overpaid. Here are the top ten to get you started:

1. Michael Bay, Director/Producer: $125 million

2. Steven Spielberg, Director/Producer: $85 million

3. Roland Emmerich, Director/Producer: $70 million

4. James Cameron, Director/Writer/Producer: $50 million

5. Todd Phillips, Director/Producer: $44 million

6. Daniel Radcliffe, Actor: $41 million

7. Ben Stiller, Actor: $40 million

8. Tom Hanks, Actor: $36 million

9. J. J. Abrams, Director/Producer: $36 million

All of them are overpaid. Entertainment has a way, way-y-y too big of a place in people’s lives. It is also confused with art too often. The best art has been done by artists who were not paid much, anyway.
