You have been reading a headline just like the one above every Monday for the past 16 months. Is it really going to end? We here at Inside Redbox say “NO WAY!”

Of course, there will always be other promo codes that you can use and find on the Redbox Codes page, but that is not what we are talking about…

And, Redbox will still be doing their Monday Promo Codes on the first Monday of each month – at least for a little while – but that is not what we are talking about either…

So, what are we going to do to keep the free movies flowing? Well, you are going to have to wait until next week to find out (Sorry!). But, in the meantime, check out our recent post titled “Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Redbox?” and take advantage of a free trial that will get you at least 6 free rentals over the next 2 weeks.

And, if you have not signed up for the “Insider Updates” newsletter, make sure you get signed up right now [see box on the right of this page], and you will be notified about the latest movies, news and promotions before anyone else.

Stay tuned!

Getting Back to Work

Many of you may have noticed that I have not been posting or commenting much over the past 3 weeks or so. Just wanted to let you know that things are getting back to normal around here and you will be seeing more posts, comments, and even some new site features.

The reason I haven’t been spending as much time around here lately was because I was in the process of moving. It was a very short move (still on the same street), but it still took a lot of time and energy to make it all happen.

There is still work to do in the new house (isn’t there always) – and we expecting the birth of a new child within the next few weeks – but I do plan to be spending more time on the site again. Thanks to everyone for all of your comments and participation here in our community in my absence, it really helps keep things going.

Now I need to get back to work. Stay tuned for some cool updates soon that you will like, and make sure you are subscribed to the “Insider Updates” newsletter to get the news first.

Redbox contacted me yesterday and requested that we remove the new “Inside Redbox Mobile” iPhone application from the Apple App Store. While I cannot discuss all of the details, we hope this is only temporary as we work out some details with Redbox.

The removal of the Lite version has already taken effect, and we assume the Pro version will follow shortly. If you want to get the app before it is removed, I recommend you do so quickly.

If you want to continue to see a Redbox iPhone app, definitely let Redbox know by contacting them via email (questions@redbox.com) or phone (1-866-733-2693).

We appreciate your support, and will keep you updated as soon as we know more. In the meantime, please share this post with friends and contact Redbox with your thoughts.

Inside Redbox Mobile logo Great news for all of you iPhone (and iPod Touch) users out there… The Inside Redbox Mobile application is almost ready to go!

We hope to get it in the Apple App Store in about 3 weeks or so, but for now we are giving out 50 invitations to test the beta version over the next few weeks.

To get more details on the app, visit the application’s home page over at AppBox Mobile, where you will find screenshots, a video, and more…

To become a beta tester, you need to follow the instructions below exactly. We will send out invitations to the first 50 people to submit the information requested…

In a post almost 2 months ago to the day, I introduced some ideas that I would be implementing in the site over the coming months. One of those ideas was “Codename: MQ”…

Today, myQueue (MQ) is ready enough for me to release it to members of this site for testing. There will still be some changes and features added, but the basics are there, so get to using them!

What is myQueue?

myQueue is a Netflix-like movie queue designed to help you keep track of your Redbox rentals – what you want to watch and what you have watched. It is part of the new “Movies” page here on InsideRedbox.

Currently, you can add movies to your queue when you are looking at the “Movie Info” screen on the Movies page. Just click the “Add to myQueue” button (next to the “Rent Now” button) located under the movie title. You must be logged in and a member of InsideRedbox to see the button and use this feature.

You can reorder your queue by dragging/dropping movie titles on the list. When your mouse cursor changes to the “hand” symbol, just click and drag the movie to where you want it.

You can remove movies from your queue by clicking the “X”. You can check availability and/or rent a movie on redbox.com by clicking “R” button next to the movie name. Also, you can see how other InsideRedbox users rate this movie in the “Star rating” section (another new feature to the site).

Additional features coming (very) soon

Mark as “Rented” – As of right now, you can only “remove” a movie from your queue, and not mark it is “Rented”. I am working on this functionality right now, and it should be ready very soon. You will then be able to mark a movie as “rented” like you can on the Codes page, which allows you to keep track of your rental and helps us keep a list of popular rentals by our members (another new feature on the “Movies” page).

Automated Rental Tracking – In addition, I am working on a way for the system to automatically track movies you have rented, remove them from your queue, and allow you to rate them. If you choose to use this feature, you will simply enter a special email address (which the site will create for you) when you rent your movie at the Redbox kiosk. The receipt will then come to the myQueue system, and then be forwarded on to you for your own records. The myQueue system will then automatically process the receipt and update myQueue for you.

The Future of myQueue

Above are the features I have planned for myQueue, but the future of other additions are up to you. Let me know what you think, what else you want to see, and I will see what I can do.

Start using myQueue today, and stay tuned for future updates.

I just posted an updated Redbox Movies page. Take a look at it and let me know what you think, and if you have any problems.

Also, I am working on the “myQueue” section, which should be available sometime on Friday.

Stay tuned…

Inside Redbox Now on Twitter

If you are a Twitter user, you will be glad to know that you can now keep up with the latest news and codes from Inside Redbox.

http://twitter.com/InsideRedbox

Just visit our Twitter page (above) and click “Follow” to stay updated.

With the brunt of Phase 1 completed, we are ready to move on to phases 2 and 3.

These phases (especially phase 2) will take a bit longer than the first phase, but they will be worth the wait.

PHASE 2. INSIDE REDBOX MOBILE

This is the most exciting addition to Inside Redbox for me, and I hope many of you will be able to take advantage of it.

We are working on a new mobile version of the site designed for smaller screens and mobile phone browsers. In addition, we plan to build an iPhone Application that incorporates even more cool ideas.

Along with the new mobile version (and specifically the iPhone App), we are going to be adding some really cool features that I think you will like. I cannot share all of what we are doing yet, but just know that it will make renting movies from Redbox a lot easier for you when you are on the go.

PHASE 3. CODENAME: MQ

Can you guess what this will be?

Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think. I will pick someone from those who are closest (or who get it right) and send you a $25 gift card to Amazon or Best Buy.

More updates to come, so stay tuned and be sure to subscribe to “Insider Updates” by filling out the form to the right.

“Change” has been a popular word lately – with the presidential election, housing crisis, markets collapsing, and more…

It is time to make some changes here at Inside Redbox, as well. Hopefully these changes will all be for the better, though, as we attempt to improve the site for everyone.

So what is “Part 1” of this change?

1. REDBOX CODES SYSTEM

The first changes you will see will come on the Redbox Codes page. We are updating the page to make it (hopefully) easier to find the codes you are looking for, and to make it easier to keep track of codes you have used.

We hope to complete these changes within a week, or by November 7. In the meantime, certain features may be unavailable (like the “Codes by State” pages), but don’t panic. We will get things up and running as quickly as possible.

Stay tuned for part 2 (and beyond) for info on the other upcoming features…

With all of these features we are adding comes a cost to us to make it happen. As you have seen, we put advertisements on the site to help pay for the costs of running it. We need to do this because we don’t sell anything and will NEVER charge you for access to a community you helped build…

At this time, there are a few more ads than I would like to see. This has happened because the rising popularity of the site adds to the costs and time required to run it. So, before it gets out of hand, I am making a change, and would like your thoughts on it.

The idea is simple: Become a member, see fewer ads and more promo codes.

Since many of you are already members to fully use the code tracking system, this won’t make much of a difference for you. Membership will – of course – remain free. The only thing that will change is that you will be asked to look at an offer (likely monthly) in order to see the most up-to-date list of codes.

Non-members will still be able to access the site, of course, but they won’t be able to see the codes that have been added/updated in the last 48 hours.

I anticipate that this simple change will simplify the management of the site, pay for the costs of running it, and have some other great side-effects as well (like quicker access to codes and less spam). I would love to hear from you, though, as I do value your feedback. Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think.

Thanks everyone for making Inside Redbox a great community, and I look forward to bringing you some great new features in the near future!
