Amazon’s intentions in the media space have been quite the topic of discussion of later. Amazon recently raised the annual price of its Prime membership, which includes unlimited streaming access, and is holding a news conference in New York next week where it is expected to unveil a set-top device. Something Amazon is NOT working on, apparently, is a free TV service.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Amazon is planning to launch a free, ad-supported streaming TV and music service. Amazon spokeswoman Sally Fouts, however, has denied that such is the case. Said Fouts:
“We have a video advertisingbusiness that currently offers programs like First Episode Free and ads associated with movie and game trailers, and we’re often experimenting with new things . . . But we have no plans to offer a free streaming media service.

What do you think Amazon WILL roll out next week, then? Can a marketplace already crowded with Rokus, Chromecasts, Apple TVs, and other devices support yet another streaming box?

Sounds like Aereo, Inc Doesn’t it?
Aereo claims to have an upcoming “writ of certiorari”*, but no date has been disseminated.
* writ of certiorari = court review to determine if a legal case should be heard. ;)
