It’s not only Blockbuster that sees Redbox as a threat anymore…
According to Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, they are really starting to keep an eye on Redbox, and see them as their number one competitor by the end of the year.
Personally, I see them as complementary services right now. I am subscribed to the Netflix 1-at-a-time unlimited plan, which allows me to watch as many movies as I want from their online streaming catalog, and about 1 per week from the standard by-mail service. Currently, I use them for Blu-ray rentals, as my Redbox doesn’t have blu-ray yet.
What do you think? Do you use both, or has Redbox caused you to cancel or downcgrade your Netflix subscription?

As an ex-Netflix & Blockbuster customer I recently switched to Redbox. Yesterday, when I tried to return the 2ND rental the Redbox vending machine inside an Albertson Food Market informed me that it is full and unable to accept the DVD and to either come back later or drive to another location. Went back “later” with the same results. Today I drove to another location and was able to return it. Redbox offered a free code for the extra day, but I don’t think it’s worth the 25 minutes on hold with Customer Service and the gas driving to different drop off locations. If Netflix service has improved and if they would roll back their prices I would consider going back.
Yeah , I agree , I like netflix but you have to use it alot for it to be worth it.
I have been using Netflix for over a year and want to list some pros and cons/wish list. I watch a lot of movies (~3/week) and do not watch TV. PROS = I have loved the online streaming of great movies and the addition of the STARS channel further makes me committed. I use a VGA cable to my HD TV and it looks as good as a DVD. My only problem here is Comcast… Don’t EVEN get me started – Molly Shannon
WISH LIST = add more channels like STARS (HBO, Discovery, History, etc).
CON = The real problem with Netflix is that they don’t work on Saturday and Sunday. So, you’ll never receive your rental on a Monday because they didn’t submit it to USPS on Saturday. And from not working on Sunday, they have so many movies to process on Monday, that they don’t always get to mine and so I wont get the next in my queue until Wednesday. I feel like I’m getting jipped because they can increase my frequency by simply working on the weekends. My guess is they may not have the infrastructure yet to have so many turns of inventory and I’m sure USPS is charging them an arm and a leg. For the past 4 years, postage prices have increased every Mother’s Day. They don’t even publish pricing in the post office any more because they have to reprint new signs every year.
Stop paying them and start Torrent Downloading Put em out of buisness
