Warner, so hostile for so long towards Netflix and its ilk, seems to have come around. The studio is reportedly in production on original programming destined for Netflix and other subscription video-on-demand services.

Warner’s CFO, John Martin, told an investor group today that his company sees a possibly lucrative growth opportunity in the SVOD model.

Said Martin:

“What’s proving interesting about SVOD is that over time it could prove to be a syndication window for original programming on basic cable, . . . When you add all of that up, we think [SVOD] is a meaningful amount of opportunity . . . If SVOD offerings are going to stay popular [among viewers], if they are going to be relevant in consumers’ lives, we believe very strongly that the nature of the content offerings are continually needed to be refreshed and be new,”

Martin went on to say that Warner wants to get its piece of the streaming VOD pie and is willing to invest in content creation to support that desire:

‘We feel like we are in a good position to take our fair share and help contribute to that ecosystem.”

Are you surprised to hear that mighty Warner is condescending to work with pesky little Netflix? What kind of content do you think we will see resulting from this partnership?

It all depends on the content. If it’s some generic plot with z level actors, well then who cares. If they try to be edgy and make people excited about the content, then they might have something. I highly doubt it.

It is kinda funny because it proves everything Warner Bros. has tried has failed… remember their original excuse that they didn’t want to VOD and rentals because it was hurting their disc sales…
so Warner Bros. thought they’d stick it to the customer and initiated the 28 day waiting period for rentals.
Try looking up a WB title on Netflix, either it is not available or not available for streaming, DVD only. Streaming WB titles are available only through THEIR lame UltraViolet rip-off system.

So now, I really don’t care what they do unless they want to try and give back to us customers.

Based on their latest stuff I would assume something along these lines, Beverly Hills vampires go shopping, have a bad time, get called fat, everyone sleeps with everyone else, and they all whine about it for the next two months. Not interested!
