Verizon customers who love them some mobile video just got something to smile about. Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead has just announced the Viewdini platform, a service that makes finding and viewing video on mobile devices more user-friendly.

Viewdini acts as an aggregator to allow users to search for content across a variety of major services such as Netflix, Hulu Plus and TV sites. Viewdini will launch on 4G LTE Android devices on Verizon’s network later this month, and will be coming to other device platforms soon.

The timing of Viewdini’s unveiling is a bit curious. Just as Verizon has announced that upgraders will lose their grandfathered unlimited data plans going forward, the company releases a service guaranteed to encourage users to gobble up data. Major additional data usage plus high fees for data overages equals a nice chunk of change in Verizon’s pocket. Or perhaps the company has something in mind that will exempt the service from data caps when it launches later this month?

What do you think of Verizon’s new service and the motives behind its launch?

It ALL is aimed at more CHA CHING for Verizon. I have 3 smartphones with them. I’m marching all of my phones away as each contract comes up for renewal…..

They now have a droid that is prepaid, BUT…. unlike all the other companies with prepaid, they charge $80 a month. Everyone else charges $50.00 a month for unlimited talk, text & internet.
The phone was $169 or something in that area at Wal Mart. First time I’ve seen a droid prepaid with Verizon.
But they charge $30 more than everyone else.
There again as MARLA said above, more CHA CHING for Verizon.
