download (2)This will surely be a boost for the 4K Ultra HD format consumer electronics manufacturers are trying to coax people into accepting. The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has announced completion of the specification for the 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray format. The spec also mandates that new Ultra HD Blu-ray players be backward-compatible with existing Blu-ray discs.

Victor Matsuda, chairman of the BDA Promotions Committee, boasted about the new spec:

“The technical capabilities of Blu-ray Disc, in particular its significant storage capacity and high data transfer rates, will enable the delivery of an unparalleled, consistent and repeatable UHD experience,”

Will you be investing in an Ultra HD Blu-ray player when they come out later this year?

Not later next year; but probably when it becomes MAINSTREAM–in about 5-7 years or my OPPO player needs replacing.

No. I’m over physical media. Annoying ads to skip and storage, pass. I am just fine with the current selections. Movies are made in such a nice quality they even make DVD’s looks good most of the time when I rent with a free code from Redbox. I will stick with Digital HD as it costs less and better access to my content. I am fine with 1080p at this time.
