Despite the boom in digital entertainment, many businesses are struggling to compete.

Witness Target, which launched its Target Ticket digital movie platform in the fall of 2013 and has just announced the service’s closure.

The nation’s second-largest retailer found the online movie biz just too tough, and will close Target Ticket on March 7. From a Target statement:
“Target has made the decision to end the services offered on Target Ticket and will be focusing efforts on other entertainment offerings,”
Are other online entertainment services going to go the way of Target Ticket as Netflix, Amazon, and other competitors continue to grow?

I, for one, refuse to pay $3+ to stream a “rental”. I think it’s ludicrous to pay that much money for a digital stream when $8/month gets me all the movies I want from Netflix. I can wait for movies to come to Netflix or Amazon or I will walk 3 blocks to a Redbox. I’m not surprised Target Ticket folded. I received offers from them but the price kept me away. I would pay $1 to stream a movie online, that’s my limit.
I feel the digit market is a bit much, even if convenient. If they started offering $1 or $2 HD rentals, I’d probably give it a go, otherwise Redbox works just fine. For Streaming, VUDU works best and having my titles go into my Ultraviolet locker lets me know my rights are stored for good and has drove me to go all digital as of later part of 2014 and I sold off my physical collection
How many folks knew ‘Tar-zhay’ had a streaming service?
Maybe the hackers who breached its IT system could have indicated the service existed, it would no have shuttered.
I agree with Vernon. Never knew this service existed til they are dumping it. Maybe they didn’t promote it well..or at all.
:)
I still can’t type :(

Target Ticket? Never heard of it.
I already use Amazon prime and family video. I have Apple TV to stream our digital copies. I don’t like and rarely use ultra violet. If I’m going to rent a movie I’d rather rent locally from family video than pay to stream it.
Never heard of it. Good job, marketing department!
