Study Shows Redbox Renters Are Also Buyers

Looks like certain movie studios might be wrong – Redbox is not really killing their profits!

A recent research study by the NPD Group and Adams Media Research – as well as internal numbers from Redbox – show that Redbox users are just as likely to buy DVD movies as anyone.

It also notes that 23 million of the projected 77 million DVD sales by Redbox customers this year will come after the customer rented the movie from Redbox first.

So, it looks like that $1 for Redbox is turning into profits of over $391 million for the movie studios. Not bad for a company that some studios are trying to kill.

Anything else you want to whine about now, Universal?

As a customer who uses redbox and netflix i can say that if I really like a movie i buy it. So maybe the studio misses out on a few bucks because i watched the movie for a dollar instead of getting suckered into buying something for full dvd price when i don’t know if it is good. i spend plenty of money on movies now if thats through renting or buying or actually going to the theater i don’t see why it makes a difference when it’s still money in their pockets.

i dont see the point in buying a movie because i only watch movies one time. i don’t like to watch movies that i have alredy seen because i know everything thats going on, so i just rent and I LOVE LOVE LOVE REDBOX! i like netflix too but with redbox i dont have to wait.m the only time i buy a movie is if it is for my kids (8 and 2) they will watch a movie a mollion times i wont waste money for a movie to sit on my shelve.

I agree with Jeremy since I was one of those crazy movie fans that would go to the theaters to watch the movie and buy it as soon as it came out on video. But I got fed up with the studios releasing months later an extended edition or a directors cut. Now in days if I want to see a movie, either I will go to the theaters or wait for it to come on video. Screw them since they have been screwing us all this time.

Early movie studios moved to southern California to escape Edison’s patents company.

Maybe movie studios should now move to Antarctica to escape the underdogs.

Of course they are still going to wine. Because if you buy a movie from Redbox or any rental company. Since it’s used the movie companies won’t be seeing any money from that used movie. Instead they want people to go out and spend money on a brand new copy. Yes they make money when they sell it to companies but since they buy in bulk they charge less for each movie. I too think it’s silly of movie companies though.

I got a “FREE” dvd & it should have been rated XXXXXX instead of ” R,” it was the worse movie I have ever seen, The title was HAROLD & KUMAR 2, ESCAPE FROM GUANTAMA BAY. as for getting a frebie, They should give me money for watching a filfty movie like that.
$999,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 IS NOT ENOUGH, As for getting codes, I like to get things free, & yet I do expect to pay for movies that are good, but when they are renting out crap they should pay you for watching them.
