Gymnastics, swimming and volleyball are compelling alternatives to Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, it seems. According to a study from Procera Networks, Netflix streaming traffic was 25 percent lower on Sunday than its normal levels—a drop that is attributed to viewers watching the Olympics instead of the streaming service.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings predicted such an eventuality last week, and it appears his prognostication was right. Cam Cullen, VP of global marketing for Procera, said the following about his firm’s findings:
“This matches expectations, as the U.S. is much more involved in the Olympics than Canada, and with the peak levels that we mentioned earlier for Olympics streaming, something had to give, and in this case it was Netflix,”
Have you found yourself tuning in more to the Olympics and less into Netflix this week, Insiders?
