If you like getting your TV experience from the internet these days, you’ve got a lot of company. About 20 percent of American adults watch TV shows and original programming online on a monthly basis, according to a study from research firm GfK.
According to the report, one-third of the U.S. population has watched a TV show or original program online. The study also found that desktop computers were the most preferred viewing devices, followed by smart TVs, smartphones, and tablets.
Sherrill Mane, SVP of research, analytics and measurement with IAB, observed the following about her firm’s findings:
“It is particularly telling that this kind of programming is attracting a large following – 45 million already – while also bringing viewing experiences and ad receptivity that compare favorably with regular TV [broadcasts],”
