175_90_NetflixNot everything is going Netflix’s way, as the company continues to face stiff competition for content.

Netflix’s latest black eye in the battle for content comes courtesy of Starz, which has just secured a deal with Sony Pictures that many thought would go to Netflix.

The deal gives premium pay-channel Starz exclusive access to Sony Pictures’ theatrical release titles through 2021.

Recent Sony films that will skip Netflix and go directly to Starz include The Amazing Spider-Man, 21 Jump Street, Zero Dark Thirty, The Vow, Men in Black 3 and Resident Evil: Retribution, and more.

Starz CEO Chris Albrecht had the following to say about the new agreement:

“Starz will continue to offer the richest premium TV viewing experience for our subscribers and distributors for years to come thanks to Starz’s growing original programming slate, along with the robust lineup of new blockbuster Sony releases and our deep movie library,”

Will Netflix just take this one on the chin and keep fighting, or will this blow sting them?

Netflix should make another deal with starz or hopefully hbo to get more content but hbo had said that they see netflix as competition but but there’s more premium channels they can work with

Does this refer to streaming, DVDs, or both?

What a slap in the face. Sony was one of the few studios that were open to giving Netflix content.
