A recent report by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited in the United Kingdom may make you think again.

The firm found that streaming video on demand (SVOD) will complement, rather than supplant, the traditional pay-TV model in the near future. Through 2018, SVOD is estimated to earn $15.6 billion in revenue globally, which accounts for just 4 percent of global pay-TV revenue.

Paul Lee, head of research, technology, media and telecommunications at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, observed the following:

“This is not an aggressive forecast . . . Over the eight years that SVOD services have been available in the United States, the number of U.S. homes with pay-TV has increased.”

Do you have pay-TV and SVOD services side-by-side in your home, Insiders?

Lets see what it is in (5) years.. Cable TV really will need to change if they want people to pay for the TV part of the Cable bill.
    1. 95% of the shows on TV now are total crap.
    2. Why pay up the kisser for crap?
    3. You can get over the air for free.
    4. You can get NetFlix, HULU, Warner Archive, & Acron TV. All for about 25% of the Cable TV price.
Canned the Cable TV years back. Not miss a thing. And really don’t miss the bill.

      One word:

Sports. Until us sports freaks can get our fill of NFL, ESPN etc through streaming services that don’t require a cable subscription we can’t move on. The big rock is getting access to ESPN without a cable sub. If
that ever happens (beyond Dish’s sling) then a lot of guys would cut the
      cord very quickly.

Yes. It’s harder for certain family members to use streaming. Cable with a DVR system works best. Ours now offers a 4 tuner Tivo with 2 extra rooms per box and so it’s easy for me to find and set up content for my family to access. We also use Netflix and Hulu. The main family package works fine and I go without the extra channels. I would definitely highly consider a small package if offered or the option to vote, but I know tv is a package/negotiation driven model right now so I don’t expect too much change but if pricing goes too high then I would look at satellite offers again and make a cancellation call if needed and either work out a deal or change.

Canceled cable. I don’t stream. We receive the 5 major networks and 3 movie channels for free with our rabbit ears.

Havn’t rented from Redbox since they raised the price to $1.50 …Not that $1.50 is overpriced, but it won’t stop there.

Like the cable companies, as users decline they will continue to raise prices for remaining subscribers.

Redbox should return to $1 rentals. Or $1.50 each/3 for $3.00
