Report: Apple to Try to Kill Netflix

downloadApple may be hard at work on a large slate of original content to beef up its place in the home entertainment biz and attempt to wipe out Netflix. According to unnamed sources, Apple is in “preliminary conversations” to establish production partnerships with Hollywood execs

Peter Csathy, a veteran of the tech & media field and the CEO of Manatt Digital Media, points out the advantage Apple may have over Netflix if the former enters this space:

“Netflix has to monetize and be a viable business just on content. But Apple makes its money on hardware . . . The services themselves can ultimately be seen as a marketing expense.”

Csathy also believes that, in typical Apple style, the company will go all-in if/when it launches its new content:

“You can bet that Apple’s Netflix-Killer will be front and center and free (at least for a while) on Apple TV’s when it launches,”

Do you think Apple is going to try to play in Netflix’s sandbox? If so, how is that going to work out for them?

If it will require Apple hardware it will never fly. I would love to see it happen because competition is the only way to keep prices down

Where is everybody jump in the gun on with somebody just wrote, apples not interested in taking over Netflix roofing killing them, they already change the music business and for a plus.

But people really think that they’re going to take over Netflix or even going to kill Netflix they have no reason to do that, and remember that Apple is a partner with Netflix so in any case all this is is a little bait to get those that don’t understand just all worked up over nothing, but then again Apple haters are Apple haters say you can’t change that and that’s those peoples problems.

If anybody has any idea how Apple works knows for a fact that the more content they have been what they offer sells more hardware, and all you have a speculation by a writer that wants to get revenue from those that don’t understand how apples business works.

So people can believe what they want, but every time Apple comes out with something it’s always the same thing, they just change the headline to whatever the thing is that Apple is coming out with and watch a little chicken little play right in front of your face because people love to jump to conclusions.

But then again these days people don’t like facts, they rather speculate on dooming gloom, And nothings even happened.

The veteran of the tech & media field and the CEO of Manatt Digital Media is a bit wrong on where Apples revenues come from. While they’re heavy on iphones and ipads, they make next to nothing on apple tv. The itunes revenues absolutely kill their tv hardware.

Roughly 50% of home don’t have an ipad or iphone. None of them will be interested in an apple tv.

So good luck unseating any of the 3 existing top streaming providers, even with good hardware and a lot of free content. I can tap into the big 3 and others for $30-40, sometimes even less. $150 for an apple tv isn’t even in the picture.
