Bloomberg is reporting that Apple has delayed the launch of its streaming TV service to at least next year.

According to “people familiar with Apple’s plans,” the service is being delayed for two reasons: content and capacity. From the Bloomberg story:

Talks to license programming from TV networks such as those owned by CBS Corp. and 21st Century Fox Inc. are progressing slowly, some of the people said. Apple also doesn’t have the computer network capacity in place to ensure a good viewing experience, said some of the people,

The report goes on to say that Apple still may launch new Apple TV hardware at its event allegedly taking place on September 9, but the service itself will have to remain in the future tense for now.

Are you disappointed by this news? Indifferent? Can Apple really apply its magic touch to the streaming TV market?

    Interesting,

So as one who has been using streaming TV technology for past year, and the current explosion of free access to every TV show and movie ever made when you want and where you want, I just couldn’t see how Apple and their cult following would be enough to break into the entertainment arena.

Looks like the have seen the light given everyone has already moved to streaming TV technology. Just look at all the announcements made over this past year of those who now offer streaming option, but all of them still charge for access, and given it is all available at no fees, I can’t understand why anyone would choose to pay for content verses the free alternative with a media center purchase. Sure is getting interesting to see the battle lines forming in the streaming TV arena.

I had Apple TV when it came out, and just like with smart phones, they are being unlocked and hacked allowing free access, so I doubt the pay per view industry will survive for much longer with current technology advancing every day. In my estimation, once you let the cat out of the bag with free access, you can’t put it back in bag. Who wouldn’t want to save thousands over cable or satellite, never mind rental costs from Redbox. There is a major shift going on behind the scenes, and I love it. Seeing these monopolies be brought to their knees is more fun than seeing telcom monopolies ending decades ago. I love it when the little guys win over big business monopolies. Sure is getting interested.

Streaming is the way of the future. I welcome the additional competition. The question is will Apple have enough content to be a serious competitor. They have deep pockets. I have Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime(mostly for the fast shipping) plus 50 TB of movies and tv stored. Also use over the air for regular tv for the last 3 years. Cost $28 a month plus internet cost. Never will subscribe to Comcast or FIOS tv again.
