(R)editorial: 2018 Oscars Predictions

We made it! The Academy Awards, with all the spiff, splendor, and spectacle one could hope for, are happening this Sunday. Hollywood royalty will put on their makeup and tuck in their tummies before they stroll down the red carpet.

Unlike past years, we’ve really not got a shoo-in for the best picture winner, nor are some of the other major categories a true lock. It’s important to remember that while the Academy has made some strides toward diversity and youth in recent years, the average Oscar voter is still old, white, and male. So making Oscar winner predictions is as much an exercise in demographic psychology as it is in evaluating the merit of the film/person being nominated.

That said, your fearless scribe has attempted to prognosticate this year’s winners in the major categories. The film/person that, in my opinion, WILL win will be in bold and the film/person that SHOULD win will be asterisked.

Take a look at my predictions, and then jump down to the comments section to let us know who you think the big winners will be. Here we go!
