Hollywood’s biggest and boldest night is in just a few days. The Academy Awards are when Tinseltown’s elite get even more self-indulgent than usual and lavish praise and golden statuettes on one another. All cynicism aside, the Oscars are a fun night to celebrate some great filmmaking and performances, and this year has some doozies.
The nominees for the 2017 Oscars are not only the most diverse group ever, but certainly one of the most talented. Like always, we’re making some guesses as to who’s going home as winners and who’s just going home.

Once again Shane’s picks are spot on and consistent with my own.
Best Picture: SHOULD go to “Fences” but “La La Land” will not only win but should sweep.
Best Actor: SHOULD go to Denzel Washington, “Fences”
Best Supporting Actor: SHOULD go to Dev Patel, “Lion”
I think “Hidden Figures” was a great movie but the prediction of “La La Land” will probably take best movie and several other categories (as so often happens at the Oscars) as is predicted. I’m torn between Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress. I think Jeff Bridges may get the Best Supporting Actor category.
Rogue One
Hacksaw Ridge
