(R)editorial: 2012 Oscars Predictions

We’re just days away from the big show: the 84th Academy Awards. On Sunday, Billy Crystal will take to the Oscar stage for the first time in years to host Hollywood’s biggest night. After the Franco/Hathaway disaster last year, it’s clear the Academy wanted to go with a “sure thing” by bringing back old standby Crystal.

As for the awards themselves, The Descendants seemed like a lock for best picture just a few short months ago, but the silent juggernaut that is The Artist has been capturing the lion’s share of industry awards and has now become the clear front-runner. Some of the other categories are more wide open, however, and it should be an interesting night with (hopefully) a few surprises.

Below are my predictions for the winners in the major categories. The film/person that, in my opinion, WILL win will be in bold and the film/person that SHOULD win will be italicized.

Once you’ve taken a gander at my picks, visit the comments and leave your own guesses.

Again Shane and I are in lock-step agreement. Unfortunately, the Academy’s members are on average almost 60 years-old and out of touch with the mainstream.

Its not WHO or WHAT should win but HOW and WHY members VOTE!

“The Artist” should sweep all the creative awards and “Hugo” the technical.

Have you forgotten that Crystal was only brought in after Eddie Murphy quit due to the departure of Brett Ratner?
