Yet another week has went by and it is time for another Redbox update.
My wife and I didn’t rent any movies this past week as we spent the time watching the last two seasons of the Fox series “24”. We both love this show, and I highly recommend it if you like action. The show is unique in that everything that happens during the season takes place in 1 day, or 24 hours, and it is non-stop action.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
This brings me to a question for you: Do you think it would be good for Redbox to include DVDs of the latest television shows?
I think it would be great, especially if they could get the studios to release the DVDs on a monthly basis so people could catch up on the last 4 or so episodes that have been aired.

This week look a bit better than last week for movies. The list is: Firewall, Glory Road, Running Scared, Straight Into Darkness, and Underworld: Evolution.
My wife and I saw “Firewall” earlier this year for our anniversary and we loved it. If you like action, technology and/or Harrison Ford, I suggest you check it out!

I’m adding a comment to Michael’s Idea to be able to rent out past TV shows. It’s funny that he mentioned this, because my fiance and I have wanted to rent “The Soprano’s” season 1, for a long time. We don’t have HBO, and would rather watch it in a “movie” type setting anyways were we would both be able to chose when we want to watch it, at our convenience. So, I would like to say it would be great to be able to rent any kind of “trilogy” type television show at a whim. Hope it will be available sometime in the future!

I think making TV series available would be an excellent idea for McDonalds (if the program owners allow it). With a series like 24 which has 7 disks, the renter could pick up the first disk to see if they like the series (which they naturally will), and then they would find themselves coming back for the other six as well… That means money for McDonalds.
Of course, with insideredbox.com…
A possible pitfall is that these machines can only hold so many DVDs. Having full television series may not produce it a high enough demand to make it maximally profitable.
In response to your question of the week, I do not watch TV, but based on the amount of people watching TV I would inlude one popular TV show as a pilot and see how it goes. My bet is that people get to their weekly shows and many are taping or using the playback features of cable systems now.
How about this? Put in a couple of old classics. You have many baby boomers who would love to see some of the oldies. The Jerk, Terminator, The Holy Grail, Cady Shack, Singing in the Rain, etc. Our kids need to know about these movies! I would only use one spot as a pilot and see how it goes.

The code ROAD is a 50 cent off promo — not a free DVD (at least it is here in the Twin Cities)
Also, I notice we got some new flimsy bendable cases dispensing here this week in the Twin Cities. Even the little pegs that hold the DVD in place on these are inadequate. This can’t be a good idea…. this is the third major case modification we have gone through since Redbox appeared here.
I agree with the previous post. Classics would be nice, so would the occasional foreign film. I can’t see them agreeing to put in TV shows though.

Last week we used your Redbox Codes and only one out of them had worked and with that we saw 2 movies.One is ‘Tamara’ and the other is ‘Matchpoint’.
Tamara is a Horror movie and Matchpoint is a some kind of action movie.Anyhow we enjoyed both movies.
The Redbox codes are very worthful to us.We are using them lot.So keep sending the Redbox codes and movie reviews.

I think this would be a great idea. I don’t watch tv either, but I’d occassionally watch a few of recent shows on dvd.
I think that television series boxsets would be a great addition to Redbox. As long as you can rent them for more than a day, I think that they would go over well.
I am just worried that it will cut out other movies…Lines are always long and I think adding a Television show Box alongside the movie box would work out well.
I have seen movies all checked out and I wonder if the addition to television DVD’s would add to that.

I think a few good tv series would be a good idea. My husband and I started watching Greys Anatomy this season and liked it so much, we went to Blockbuster to rent the first season to see what we had missed.

Excellent rendition of what happened to the 4th plane on Sept 11 2001. We found it very enthralling and moving.

I thought it very stupid. My grandson was supposed to be here but he wasn’t but I don’t even think He would have liked it. buy Mary Poppins, a much better Nanny movie.
History of Violence:
I don’t like violence so I only got this one because my son’s bride recommended it and I love her choices. I found it fascinating. To see a person completely change his life, what an amazing feat. I know about being born into a mob family because when I attended ASU I met a woman who had accidentally married into a mob family and know how difficult it is for men born into such a family to NOT do what they are taught to do. Excellent film, very violent but mighty interesting.
Happy viewing, and if anyone knows where in Summit county I can find “Walk the Line” (we have Redbox in McDonalds and Smiths now) let me know!

6-8-06 thursday I used “Road” as pro. code and Redbox wanted to charge 1/2 price $.50. Watch what Redbox wants to charge just before the window where it ask for your credit card swipe. Just for everyones information.
Still would like to know how My Code History works??? I have registered.
In response to the question: Yes – TV Shows like Lost, 24, Alias… etc. would be watched a lot. Take out those crappy “Da Vinci Code” and “Flight 93” documentaries and get the real movies on there.
Also – RedBox has started to show you movies that are not released yet in the list of options. This pissed me off the first time I saw “Glory Road” and thought “Hmm… maybe I’ll get that” – only there was no Rent button. I scanned the description and saw where it said the date it would be available…
Tonight I was in line, and three people in front of me were some girls getting extremely pissed off at the Pink Panther entry. They kept trying to hit it – and then hit “check out” to see if they could rent it… but no luck.
I’m going to email my rant to Redbox…
Oh – you need to add a login link next to the code history part. I have to manually type in the login URL whenever I want to add a code to my code history.
I love the idea of renting TV shows!!! I love to watch them, but I am usually not home when they are on. If I could rent them from redbox (where they are affordable) then I could keep caught up!
