I just wanted to ask ,If anyone knows, that how can “Redbox” afford to rent movies that other places, like blockbuster;hollywood video, netflix, not to mention others; charge almost four dollars a movie while ,”Redbox” only charges .99 cents, how can they make a profit; and how can these other movie rental places compete w/”Redbox”?

maybe they just got some major skillage at renting more DVDs for a cheaper price, instead of say, renting fewer for a higher price.

Don’t forget too that it’s 1.00 EACH night… many people forget to bring it back in time and it becomes a 2, 3 or 4 dollar rental. Pure profit for Redbox.

You are also forgetting about the lack of overhead. Each Redbox has no stores, no employees, no property, and probably only a marginal rental fee to the stores at which they reside. Of course, I don’t know why, if I had a store I’d be willing to have one for free or even pay to get one because of the fact that it brings people to your business to rent, and most likely to return. I bet all of the money I’m saving on DVD rentals I end up spending in Giant Eagle on things I may not otherwise have bought. Hell, if I were Giant Eagle or WalMart I’d buy thousands of one night rental codes from RedBox and offer one free with the purchase of microwave popcorn, soda, and candy, but I’m getting off topic. Can they compete? Not well. There is no doubt that automated DVD rental kiosks have hurt Blockbuster, but if they play their cards right they can recover with rental kiosks of their own… hopefully with better features.
