I just read a report that there are a few Redbox’ out there that have some Blu-ray discs in them…

When our tipster contacted Red Box concerning the discovery, the representative did affirm that if Blu-ray was shown, Blu-ray was on the way…
I also read a comment where someone else said they found a copy of Forbidden Kingdom in Blu-ray in their local Redbox (Milwaukie, Oregon).

This is unconfirmed at this point. I am still a bit skeptical because I have seen no indication on the upcoming Redbox movie listings that any of the discs are Blu-ray. Perhaps Oregon is a part of some test Redbox is doing, though…

I’ve noticed it here in Albuquerque, NM as well. but I’ve also noticed that sometimes the use different posters or artwork for some movies. like promo or theatrical posters. Although that would be great.
I went to my local redbox MT VERNON, NY and i saw that they had the image of the BLU-RAY forbidden kingdom in stock. Once i rented it, redbox dispensed a regular dvd. Weird
I don’t believe this to be intentional. I rented Speed Racer tonight, but noticed that the picture on the view screen showed the Blu-Ray box, but no mention of it being a Blu-Ray in the description. I, not owning a Blu-Ray player, decided to take a chance and rent it. Sure enough, the disc that came out was indeed a Standard Definition disc. I called RedBox afterwards, and they told me that “No, we do NOT offer Blu-Ray’s at this time, and I will report that the view screen is showing the WRONG format image. Thank you”.
It might be nice if in the future RedBox starts renting Blu-Ray’s, but when they do, expect alot of unaware renters to be complaining that the disc didn’t work in their players….
..oh, and by the way, my RedBox is located in Southern Florida if that makes any difference.
What they should do is have a message come up when you’re renting a blu-ray to let people know that it won’t play on their dvd player, like the rated R message. My friends in retail still get way too many angry customers complaining about blurays they bought that wont play cause they dont have a player.
Gabe, what store you seen them at? I attend UNM so am in ABQ for a lot of the year, a little bluray action would be nice.
Mostly at Smith’s and Walmart’s throughout the city. and Yeah would be nice to Check out B-D discs. oh well maybe one of these days.
The RedBox in Pensacola FL showed BluRay discs coming soon. I can hardly wait!!

Really? You are sure it is truly a Blu-ray disc? I have heard reports that some have seen it say Blu-ray, but dispense a regular DVD.

The one at the WalMart Neighborhood Market at the corner of Colonial Drive and Apopka-Vineland outside of Orlando has a ton of Blu-Rays and they are real Blu-Rays. Watched The Fifth Element yesterday and have The Mummy today, right clicking on properties showed The Fifth Element to be 38GB and the Mummy to be 35GB, so they are definitely Blu-Ray disks, plus the have the Blu-Ray directory structure and the data is stored in m2ts files not VOB files, so yes they are real Blu-Ray disks.
I rented a movie tonight and the machine said something about some titles being blu ray but it did not specify which ones…I tried to figure out which ones were, and could not, so I went ahead and rented my movie and of course it came out being a blu ray disc. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a way to know if it is a blu ray disc before you rent it? Because the machine I was using did not specify which ones were or were not.
