Nice addition, Dave. Maybe I should have made it a choose-your-own-ending story and solicited reader responses! :)

Seriously, though, there was quite a bit more I thought of that I could have written, but I didn’t want to make it too long. It needed to be very unlikely but believable enough to catch some readers in the joke. It worked, as you can see by some of the comments.

Just happened to read this, didn’t notice it was an april fool’s joke at first, but caught on as soon as ‘April’ said they would stream the movie to the kiosk screen. lol, well done.

The bit you missed though was a paragraph like this, near the end:

I asked how they would deal with copyright restrictions against public performances. April said “Naturally everyone waiting in line or near the kiosk area would have to be blindfolded… we’re in the process of developing a blindfold that can be dispensed in our standard plastic DVD carrier. Store clerks in our host locations will be instructed to call the police if anyone is caught peeking.”
