Redbox Reports Record Q1 Revenue

175_90_RedboxNaysayers about Redbox’s future might have been given pause after the kiosk rental giant reported its numbers for the first quarter of 2015. Redbox announced record revenue of $519.5 million, an increase of 1.3 percent over the same period last year.

Redbox’s operating profit shot up nearly 38 percent to over million.

Overall rentals were down, which Redbox blamed on a weak new release slate and the general decline of the DVD market.

Galen Smith, CFO of parent Outerwall, said the following about Redbox’s plans going forward:

“We continue to make small strategic investments back into the business to mitigate the impact of secular declines, such as investing in our loyalty program,”

Should these numbers give Redbox fans hope for the company’s long-term prospects?

I would like to know how much they really made?
After they closed all the Box’s up north. That must of cost them a Arm.
Then the New DVD’S that have come out, are 95% crap. Then the Cost to keep all the Box’s up and going. And then all the bills & all.
90 million profit? I think not!
But yes it does look like they are getting by. I really don’t know how?
I like my DVD’s to come to the house.
NetFlix is for me. No need to drive over and get them.
No 24 Hr take back bit.
I can watch it today, next week. Next Month.
I have three out at a time with NetFlix. I get 19 DVD’s a month in the mail
the way I’m doing it. And great turn around time.
it comes out to about 93 cents a DVD im paying.
But then this is just me……
I have 5 RedBox’s with in a mile of me.. The last free code I got did not work..
Time will tell what happens to the Box… They may make it yet! You never know.
