Inside Redbox is the #1 "Unofficial" Redbox Online Community for Redbox Codes, News and more. Inside Redbox is not affiliated with Redbox Automated Retail, LLC.

Recently Redbox hired a new executive with the title of VP of Video Games. His name is Mark Achler, and he shared a bit about the Redbox plans for integrating video games into their business.

There will be two types of kioks: One that is a lot like the current kiosks, with video games being rented along side DVDs.

The other will be a standalone kiosk just for video games. Games said to be included will be for the Wii, Playstation 3, and XBox 360.

Pricing for the games is still not being released yet, but we can hope that Redbox continues it very competitive model when entering this new arena.

Of course, Redbox is not the first to enter the video game kiosk market, and they will have a bit of a fight with e-Play, the kiosk operator recently spotted in Walmart stores in the northeast and Canada. And, Blockbuster is said to be adding video games to its upcoming Express machines being released this year.

Many members here have mentioned their desire for video games in the kiosks, and now Redbox is responding. What do you think? Is this something you will use and recommend to friends?

I think that would be great. I have an XBox 360 for my grandchildren to play
with while visiting. They have Playstations 3 at home. I have surprised them with a few games and granted they are polite but I know the surprise is sometimes disappointment. With Redbox renting games I will be able to to give them a treat and buy the game or games for them later’ as a real SUPRISE.

That would be great I was wondering when this would be done, just keep prices reasonable like your movie rental prices. YEAH!!!!!

This is awesome news! I personally think this is an excellent idea…and to actually get it going is even better. All I can say is as long as you beat the other competitors rental prices this will fly! Also having a good selection is vital!

I was hoping to see older games, like for Xbox or PS2. I think Redbox could still make a good profit renting out these games for $1 a day or for several days.

I don’t think anyone would go for that. How can you conqure, or have a good time with a game in less than 24 hours? I don’t think it would be wise to do the one day thing. That’s cool with movies, because movies only take an hour or two, but games …. games need more time.

I think that the $1 thing would be perfect. Then you have the flexibilty of renting it for one day if you want, or keeping it for 10 days without having the normal “late fees” or having to pay for an extra rental to get 1-2 more days in.

My younger daughter has her brothers x-box, because he bought the 360, and I couldn’t believe the you couldn’t get the games for it except maybe a few left at gamestop(very few) and they dont trade in with the x-box games anymore. I didn’t think it was right to sell a product and not offer games for it anymore. I would rent the reg x-box games from redbox. My daughter has a handicap and doesn’t need the quote “better 360” console. That is like buying a TV that no longer will work like it did several years ago, so you have to buy a new version. Is there anyone out there not interested in only making a fast buck????

Don’t forget to include PSII games–they are still popular play systems!

I hope they put old ps2 games and psp games in the machine and i hope they’ll have a reasonable price …. also. I hope it wont be a one night rental type of thing. No one in their right mind can conquer a game in less than 24 hours.

I think that it would be a great idea, especially for those that just want to tryout a game to see if you like it before you decide if you want to buy it or not.

I think $1 a night would be awesome for video games. I hate how most places force you to rent for multiple nights.

I only want to rent to see if I want to buy a game, not so I can beat it. For this reason, I have never in my life rented a game from Blockbuster.

However, if Redbox started this, I would use it VERY regularly.

how are they going to stop people from keeping the games? Is red box making it an major credit card only use.

What are you…5 years old? #1 Why would you care what happens to their games? #2 Are you fantastically clueless? Ever seen a Redbox? No, no credit cards! Just stand there and insert your quarters, then drop in another 400 quarters for a security deposit.

they currently charge you a dollar a day for up to 25 days for movies. They would have to make it closer to 60 or 90 days, or make the rental per day a bit more. If people keep the game, then they just replace it like the current movies

I think that it’s a really good idea.. But, as for pricing you should have a certain price for a certain amount of days b/c video games are going to be used obviously longer then a movie. But yeah it is a really great idea

Even if it is a dollar per night, that is still cheaper than the 7.99 for 5 days being charged at other places. Duh….. just keep it another night or two. People if you are smart enough to play these games you should be smart enough to figure this out!

I have been hoping for this also. I think it would be a great addition.

Redbox IT department – We had nothing better to do and they were going to lay us off to cut costs so we talked them into messing with a perfectly good working site so that later on we would have to fix it and thus keep our jobs.

We messed up the formatting so that the list of local boxes has more space between them and changed the fonts to some crappy font no one has as default. Now you have to scroll down just a little bit to hit “next”. That should annoy people enough to complain.

The little buttons for “View Titles Here” was a throw together graphic we munged around with for weeks on photo shop. Maybe they will hire my friend that does graphics now, he really needs a job and I’m tired of trying to draw stuff when I can’t even draw stick figures.

And why make those buttons a html standard reference when we can FORCE you to use Javascript. Then later on we can redirect you automatically, do popups and all sorts of nasty crap!

Also, we made the “look nearby” option (when a movie is out of stock) not carry the zip code over in the URL so it would always fail. That should keep us in jobs for a year.

IDIOTS! IF IT WORKS DON’T F WITH IT!!!

CAR…Same old, same old CAR! Haven’t ‘read’ you awhile and started to think you bailed on us because you got so ‘pissed’ with Redbox when corporate greed took over & discontinued Monday weekly promo code! Well, code Devry6268 worked for me , so I’m a happy camper with Redbox–happy camper at least until midnight tonight when the code expires!!!

Oh nooooo…I just checked the code page and looks like code Devry6268 expired June 7th/not working for others today, June 8th. I got off of work at 12:30am eastern time this morning and had a gut feeling that I should–and did–stop/use the code before I go home. Just checked and it was 12:48am June 8th, EASTERN time when I used the code and it was still working.

I think that would be great. Because of the economy we cancelled our gamefly account and my kids are hating me for it. They actually would love me again!!

Just wanted to pass alone some information, the e-play machines don’t rent games they sell or trade games they only rent dvds.

Here’s a FREE first night rental code for e-play dvd rental boxes – (RAF0329). good until August 11th. Give them a try if you have them in your town too. You can also check out the website at http://www.e-play.com

they should definitely carry sum the old games of ps2 look the system is currently outselling the ps3 version now! with the economy as it is people are not buying new systems at 399.00 then going and getting the games or renting them so much due to cost. older games can be picked up for less $$ and creates a better profit for redbox. yes they can still offer the ps3 games but lets look at actually what people are doing… then companys like red box capatilize on that market thus getting us regular folks better prices..
just logic people and i don’t work 4 them.

what i heard the price will be 1.00 for a 24 hour period… though it probally be higher ….

normal dvd is say 15.00 15 rents and profit
Normal 360 game is 60… Meaning 60 rents before profit…. and before you say Massive stores get cheaper prices the Margin is only 5 to 10 bucks per game (i looked into running a game store in the past)

so your still looking at 50 rentals compair to 15 rentals to make a profit…

it will probally be 2.00 per night

    • Member [Join Now]
      moviecrazy

It will be $2.00 per night. I talked to a Redbox customer service rep just last night and he said it will be $2.00 the first night and $2.00 each extra night. He also said they were starting with xbox 360 and PS3 games and will probably add more after awhile.

I think the idea is great, but the execution could be bad.

Think about it. A new game comes out, the machines will sell out of them.

Then their will be game companies that might not want their games distributed through them, or Microsoft, Wii, or Nintendo, will pay more to load the redboxes up with more of their games.

It will most likely be strictly next generation consoles (aka Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3)

Not to mention, some of the games may not work! I’ve rented a lot of movies through redbox and their have been a good 3-4 movies that have not worked. With games that’ll be even worse, unless they’ll include a report a problem with the disc when you return it, it could be disastrous.

The movies have a number on them in case your movie doesn’t work. We’ve called before and have had excellent customer service. I imagine the games would be the same.

We would used the video game service all the time to try games before we tried them. If you are trying to complete a game within a rental period you spend too much time playing video games. Bring game rentals to CO!!

I think this is an awsome idea but i think they should be cheaper than a dolar because that would be the same as what hasting charges (even though they make yor keep them for a week). Isn’t redbox about being cheaper.
