Per the recent report from research firm NPD Group, Redbox has grabbed 37 percent of the physical-disc rental market, an increase of 12 percent over its 2010 share. The uptick in market share is sufficient to make Redbox America’s largest DVD renter, an event that was surely unthinkable to many Hollywood head honchos just a few short years ago.

Business Insider has put together the bar graph below demonstrating Redbox’s market share gains relative to Netflix and Blockbuster, whose share stayed flat and declined, respectively.

Rental store will decline even more as Blockbuster is closing more stores (3 in my area this month alone).

I think maybe this year but certainly by 2013 Redbox will pay over $1 billion to studios for their content in a single calendar year. $1,000,000,000. That is pretty impressive from a tiny start-up within mcdonalds a few years ago. Redbox is not so easy to push around these days.

No surprise here! Blockbuster has followed Sears lead and is “pricing themselves out of business…” I am NOT going to pay their prices, when I can get the same off my PPV….often a month earlier. and I don’t waste time and gasoline chasing from box to box trying to find what I want…then racing to get it back before the late charges set in… If I DO paY the PPV price……..I can keep it for 96 hours….watch it as many times as I can keep my eyes open and don’t have to worry about inclement weather or missing the deadline to turn it back in..

They will be even larger now that they are buying BB Express out. In fact they will be the only kiosk movie rental business if I’m not mistaken. Just sit back and watch a monopoly at work now. They will almost surely raise their prices now!
