Do I see anything missing? YES! What is missing are some decent movies, what we have been getting the past few months is junk “B” to “D” movies and just plain horrible trash.
There were no better movies to come out this week. Wolverine was the only really good one. But I’m considering renting Next Day Air as well.

I agree with Steve, I too am very unhappy with the selection of movies. Mostly old or low budget flicks. Redbox will start losing it’s customers before long if they don’t correct this!

Redbox has been doing pretty good lately about getting all the major releases. Even if the studios are screwing them and they have to buy them from wal-mart, they still do, so they should be commended for this, not condemned. If you think there has been no good movies lately, maybe you are being too picky. This has been a good year for movies, and is only getting better.

It is because the major studios have been ticked at redbox and are holding their new releases back for at least 30 days. They are upset that they are losing money in sales of new movies to the public and that redbox rents them so cheaply. Redbox has court cases against three major studios right now and it looks good. We have to find alternate rentals for new releases right now until it is over.
The major studios, just like the music industry want to squeeze every dolllar out of us that they can and the fight even the private person to the jail sentence for having an unauthorized copy of something even if you owned it previously but no longer have it. The musicians and the actors don’t see that money from us, just a small amount like 25 cents a CD for a major music performer. It is the big guys that get al the profits not the talent, and they have no problems raping the consumer to get every buck that they want. They are holding these movies for ransom until after 30 days (which is when most hot rentals go cold and people have seen them elsewhere or just bought them. How crappy is that??? It is not redbox being lame, you can see articles about these lawsuits on any stockmarket site with news, Redbox is a coinstar affiliate, look it up and see. It’s always the big greedy guy that screws everybody in between. because there is nothing we can do about it!!!

How the hell can they be holding movies for ransom after 30 days, when neither Blockbuster, Netflix, Mom & Pop, or anyone else is getting the movies earlier. I am an independent rentailer. The studios do not put out many titles this time of the year, every year, because they want all the summer theatrical hits to be available on DVD in the 4th quarter. (Oct., Nov., & Dec.) Now go crawl back under your rock, because you don’t know jack shit about this business.

Most all of redbox movies stink. If you want some decent movies for the same price for a 5 day rental visit Family Video. There you can find just about anything.

Never heard of ANY of these movies!!! What is going on? I used to be able to find several movies I wanted to rent at the Redbox. The last few times I’ve gone to rent one, I’ve gone home empty handed! What is going on?

benji is a great family movie and Go Diego Go!: Diego’s Arctic Rescue is a great toddler movie and X-men Origins: Wolverine is a popular movie.
I like the B movies though. 10 Dead Men, Holy Hustler, Fast Lane, Black Diva, 13 Hours in a Warehouse. All wierd but good. Keep em coming. I’m getting Blood andBone and Wolverine. Maybe, Next day Air later in the week

I used to run a video store and its the same thing EVERY September. Its the slowest time of the year for video…kids back to school, end of summer, etc

It’s not the fault of Redbox that Hollywood has not had very many good movies out lately. How can Redbox stock good movies if there are no good movies coming out? And by the way, X-men Origins: Wolverine is coming out tomorrow and that is a pretty good movie.
Next Day Air is good one and so is Wolverine.
I believe ‘Gifted Hands’ with Cuba Gooding Jr. is coming out tomorrow per the kiosks and it isn’t on your list.

Redbox has entered into deals with substandard studios and have to take all of the crap they are putting out. You will see a lot of B-grade, direct-to-video crap flooding redboxes every week. Not even worth a dollar most of it.
Making a deal is better than none, and yet the big names still come out. If its not worth your dollar, dont spend it. Someone else will rent that movie.
if you want to see all these movies you were complaining about redbox not having, why didn’t you just pay your $10 bucks for it when the movie first came out? it is only a dollar to rent at redbox so what’s the complaining about.
Anyone else having trouble renting. For some reason Red Box won’t take my debit card anymore. I tried reserving online like 2 weeks ago and even tried renting at the kiosk and it wouldn’t let me. I just tried reserving X-Men Origins Wolverine today and it still not letting me. I’m giving Red Box another call. They told me the first time to try again in 24 to 48 hours. Okay just got off the phone and they said it looks like it’s the bank that’s stopping the transaction. I even told them that’s odd because I’ve used the same card for other transactions and Red Box is the only one that’s not going through. I’ve been having to use Blockbuster because of this.
I keep getting this error when I try to reserve online.

I’ll get none. Just checked out Rotten Tomatoes and 3 of the 4 got poor ratings. Book of Blood wasn’t reviewed yet. The light comedy “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” will definitely be at my local library so I’ll just get it there whenever it’s available and whenever I feel like suffering through another “popular” movie that only gets like 28% approval reviews. Really am starting to think that it’s not so much that Redbox gets crappy movies– but that only crappy movies are being turned out by the studios. And why is a movie like “Battle for Terra” made way back in 2007 but only on dvd in 2009? Crappy, crappy, crappy.
I agree with you for the most part, especially about the crappy movies. I’ve been saying all along that it’s not the fault of Redbox that Hollywood is putting out crappy movies, they can only stock what movies are available, whether they’re crappy movies or good movies. You couldn’t pay me to see “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” because I can’t stand Matthew McConaughey! “Battle for Terra” was put out in 2007 but it rates a 7.0 on IMDB so I don’t know what you’re talking about there. “Observe And Report” rates a 6.4 on IMDB so it might be worth a look if you like those silly kind of comedies, and sometimes I do.
Oh, I never checked out IMDB–will have to try. After I check out reviews/ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and then I see the movie, I usually agree with R.T. reviews . Don’t care too much for Matthew M. either ; all his comedy romances seem to be the same. However, I did enjoy him as a serious actor in that dark suspense/horror movie “Fraility”. A lot of people hated that movie; I was intrigued by the whole cast of characters and the premise of the movie. Go figure!

Battle for Terra, originally screened as Terra, is a 2007 computer animated science fiction film, based on the short film, about a peaceful alien planet which faces destruction from colonization by the displaced remainder of the human race. The film was directed by Aristomenis Tsirbas, and features the voices of Brian Cox, Luke Wilson, and David Cross among others. It premiered on September 8, 2007 at the Toronto International Film Festival. With distribution deals between Redbox and Warner Home Video and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment set to end next month, Pali Research analyst Richard Greenfield questions future new release copy depth for the $1-per-day movie rental kiosk market leader.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment stopped distributing new releases directly to Redbox in 2008, prompting the first of three class action lawsuits by the Coinstar subsidiary.
Redbox, in the interim, has acquired Universal titles at traditional retail channels, including Wal-Mart and Target, resulting in lower copy depth of new releases at kiosks (24 to 48 hours after street date) and at reduced margins.
Redbox does have exclusive distribution deals with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Paramount Home Entertainment and Lionsgate, for which it will pay the studios $1.1 billion collectively over the next five years.
Citing rental data from Home Media Magazine and other sources, Greenfield found that the top titles rented weekly at Redbox differed regularly from industry results — underscoring the impact of Universal’s embargo.
“What will happen when Redbox has to acquire nearly 60% of studio content [through third party retail channels]?” Greenfield wrote in a note.
From May 31 through Sept. 6, Greenfield found that only for the week of Aug. 2 did Redbox and the home entertainment industry have identical rental results.
The analyst said he wasn’t sure what, if any, impact the dearth of Universal titles at Redbox kiosks was having at sellthrough.
Greenfield said he doubted consumers have seen a difference despite Redbox’s problems with Universal, but he said that scenario could change when the top box office titles from Warner, Universal and Fox are released later this year.
“When Harry Potter, Hangover, Ice Age etc. … all become very hard to find, we suspect they may start to view Redbox’s content offering differently,” Greenfield said. “While Redbox likely hopes consumers are satisfied with the next-best title, we wonder if they will run into the problems Blockbuster did years ago when it needed a shift to revenue-sharing to prevent always [having] out-of-stock ‘hot’ titles.”
Redbox Has At Least One Fan Among the Hollywood Moguls

“For us, they’re great — bring them on,” Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of DreamWorks Animation, said in an interview on Thursday morning at the 3-D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles.
Huh? Redbox, the fast-growing kiosk company that rents DVDs for $1, has few (if any) outspoken supporters in the movie capital. Warner, Universal and 20th Century Fox – all worried that renting new-release DVDs for $1 undercuts the industry’s broader pricing structure – are fighting Redbox’s business model in court. Sony, Lionsgate and Paramount – all taking a keep-your-enemies-closer strategy – have begrudgingly signed distribution deals with the kiosk company.
For DreamWorks, Mr. Katzenberg said Redbox displays a “sharply higher conversion rate from rental to purchase” than other rental companies (Blockbuster, Netflix). In other words, Redbox is actually serving as a sales agent for the studio’s animated titles: People are renting films like “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” for $1 and deciding they want to own them. DreamWorks can also rest easier about Redbox, Mr. Katzenberg said, because most consumers, even in a struggling economy, want to buy animated movies rather than rent them – the babysitting power is just too great.
He has a big test of these theories coming up: “Monsters vs. Aliens” arrives on DVD on Sept. 29.

AUG. 25 | PHYSICAL: It’s official: Tally four studios for Redbox, three against, at least for now, with Paramount signing what could be the richest deal yet with the $1 per night kiosk operator.
Redbox signed a trial revenue-sharing deal with Paramount Pictures under which the studio will make its DVD releases available on street date to the kiosk operator through 2009. If the deal sticks, Redbox will pay Paramount about $575 million over the five-year term, with a guaranteed market share of 18.5% for Paramount titles in Redbox kiosks, almost double the 10% share the studio has in the overall rental market, according to Rentrak. The deal potentially reps 25% more revenue than Redbox’s biggest contract to date—a $460 million, five-year pact that gives Sony 19.9% share in Redbox kiosks.
Paramount will receive detailed rental data from Redbox, which it will use, in conjunction with sales data on its DVDs, to evaluate the total packaged media profit picture before deciding whether to continue with Redbox.
Paramount has the right to extend the deal through 2014, with an out clause after two years, according to a Coinstar filing with the SEC.
“We’re in a unique position,” Paramount Pictures vice chairman Rob Moore said, pointing to the caliber of product the studio has coming to DVD in the fourth quarter, including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek and G.I. Joe. Those titles, plus Paramount’s track record of delivering tentpoles, gave it the leverage to negotiate a deal where it doesn’t have to commit to Redbox initially but has the option for a longer, and highly lucrative deal, he said.
The output deal covers all Paramount titles, including live-action films from DreamWorks, but not titles from DreamWorks Animation, Moore said.
True Jim but I think it means that DreamWorks animated films will not be kept out of redbox like Universal and the others. I am thinking that as bad as some here have said these deals are for redbox, that might be the best situation. What I take from this is that there are more bigwigs out there who seem to be viewing redbox as an opportunity instead of the end of their comfy careers.
